Debut release by the brandnew two-piece Grits'n Gravy. The title of the album is Cat Lee King vs. Mighty Mike OMB! You might have seen Mighty Mike doing his one-man-band thing or causing trouble as the drummer/singer of Voodoo Rhythm recording artists The Juke Joint Pimps, but you sure do not know about Cat Lee King. The King is a skinny 20 year old rock & roller (looking like 17) living in the hill country east of Cologne. He plays a mean piano and has a voice that knocks you out. No idea where he gets it from, but he has the soul of Ray Charles and the mean attack of Bunker Hill. This guy is going to be a star! Remember: you heard him here first! The guys spent a day in the studio and the resulting 8 track will be released on a nice 10". Expect covers of tunes by Bunker Hill, Gary US Bonds, Nick Curran, J. Starkes (of Nightriders fame), Dickie Thompson (amazing version of 13 Women) and Larry Williams as well as two original tunes - Little Devil Talking is simply killer! MASONICS WITH LUDELLA BLACK - SOMETIMES FRIEND
Having released their most recent album with us in 2007, weve been saving these two Micky Hampshire-penned gems to launch at you when the times right - we feel that time is now approaching! "Sometimes Friend" on the A-side, features band associate and muse Ludella Black on lead vocal, whos a solo artist in her own right and popular feature of Masonics live gigs. She sings over a fast, powerful punk rock tune, giving everything in the process. Every musician powers along through two and a half minutes of sheer excitement, leaving the listener simply wanting to hear it again. This song shows any less mature contenders the door, and is proof that The Masonics still possess much attitude! "Hungry Monkey" on the B, is a slightly sinister jungle tale, played by the male Masonics (Masons?) with Micky singing. Propelled along by a proper tribal beat and featuring an amazing talking guitar solo and flashes of organ(!), you can almost feel the heat and hear the crickets chirping! The first run is limited to 500 copies, pressed on Clear vinyl, and in a paper picture sleeve.The whole package being evocative of late70s punk 45s (perhaps even one in particular?). If any subsequent pressing is undertaken, the records will revert to Black vinyl. Unique recording content :These tracks are exclusive to this single (plus download) and not derived from an album. Riding the wave of the German beat craze of the early sixties, British singer Tony Sheridan became a regular on the Hamburg club circuit, recruiting an ever-changing roster of back-up musicians that included, in 1961, a nascent Beatles featuring John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best. Although still very much on the scene, bassist Stu Sutcliffe did not appear on these sessions. While most of the songs here are covers sung by Sheridan, Lennon and Harrison did write the instrumental "Cry For A Shadow". Hamburg is also where the Beatles first picked up the mop-top.
