GRAVEMEN, THEE - ROCKIN' IN THE GRAVEYARD
Trash-Blues-Garage Duo from Malmö, Sweden. Thee Gravemen are two English guys, Lee Tea on guitar & vocals, and Daz Trash on Drums & Screams. Wild primitive sounds from the grave! They have been playing all over Europe now for three years and are still going strong. Releasing the 3rd 7" vinyl single this time on Heptown Records. The A side blasts out a real stomping and strolling rock 'n' roll song called "Rockin in the Graveyard" while the B side is a fabulous spooky version of the late 1959 classic "Tornado". The 2 man band get their influences from the likes of Screaming Lord Sutch, The Cramps, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Hasil Adkins and The Damned etc. taking 60s garage, 50s rockabilly, 70s punk and putting it in a blender with some vintage horror and some voodoo magic to make this wild and primitive stripped down sound Thee Gravemen call music!
PUMMEL, ELVIS FT. TEX NAPALM - CAT JUMPS ON THE TABLE
Elvis Pummel is a musician and DJ from Dortmund. His starting point is the homage to unknown artists and bands of the 1950s and 1960s such as Hasil Adkins and the trash culture and a penchant for One Man Bands and Rockabilly. In the 1980s he played in several formations and he was the co-founder of The Bunker Rats and Barnyard Blitz. After he was elected in 1993 to the worst guitarist of North Rhine-Westphalia, he took this as an opportunity to expand his career further and act also as a charming one man performer. Additionally, he appeared as a presenter and DJ. Several releases followed on vinyl, as CD sampler contributions and film music. In 2006 Crazy Love Records released an anthology on CD of the artist with 56 songs, a 16 page booklet and a foreword by Gotz Alsmann. Tracks: Songs: A1 - You don't know about me, A2 - Chicken George, A3 - Ring Ring Says The Bells (Ding Dong Say My Balls), A4 - Bop Bop Bop, A5 - Honky Tonk Life, B1 - School Boys Blues, B2 - Find The Blues, B3 - I Don't Know When Or How, B4 - I Can Understand you (I Am Your Pillow).
SONICS - THE WITCH EP
Big Beat presents a very special vinyl-only Sonics release timed for the Northwest garage bands European dates in late 2012. "The Witch" EP collects four gems from the group's quintessential Etiquette catalogue, and features for the first time on wax, the rare "switchblade" version of The Witch, with Larry Parypa scraping metal across his guitar strings to menacing effect. Also making its vinyl debut is the full-length recording of the band's bloodcurdling Psycho direct from the studio master tape, where singer Gerry Roslie turns his throat to hamburger. In recent years the Sonics pounding take on Richard Berry's Have Love Will Travel has become their biggest box-office item, having appeared upon countless TV commercials and soundtracks around the world. Rounding out this very special "Witch" EP is the original, classic take of the title cut. Housed in a handsome sleeve featuring a rare colour picture from an unused session intended to promote the original Witch single, shot by famed Northwest photographer Jini Dellaccio, The Sonics "Witch" EP is an essential item for any fan of this unsurpassed rock'n'roll combo. Tracklisting: Side One: 1. THE WITCH (SWITCHBLADE VERSION) 2. HAVE LOVE WILL TRAVEL. Side Two: 1. PSYCHO (FULL LENGTH VERSION) 2. THE WITCH.
TRIXIE TRAINWRECK NO MAN BAND - HARD WORKIN' GIRL
The first time I met Trixie Trainwreck, I was fascinated by her stunning appearance, truly she was the blonde goddess of planet "Tattoo"! But don't make it that easy: lovely Miss Trainwreck is a gifted singer, talented songwriter and a serious rockin' musician. Being one of the two singing ladies in the awesome, one and only berlin-based cabaret punk outfit " The Kamikaze Queens", or as a member of the breathtaking all-girl honky tonk quartet "The Runaway Brides" and last, but not least ,the frontlady of the rockabilly-sweethearts "The Cry Babies" - Trixie is always 100% convincing and a charming performer. Here now is the first record of her solo project, aptly named "Trixie Trainwreck No Man Band"! Miss Trixie plays guitar, drums and sings in the tradition of the old timey one man-blues bands. And she's doin' this with coolness, love and understanding for this kind of music. The three songs on this killer '45 will make you shout for more. If you ever be able to see Trixie "live", her shows are a "must see"! Miss Trainwreck is the perfect mix between Blind Lemon Jefferson, Patsy Cline and Debbie Harry. ~Tex Morton. Mastering by Tim Warren/Crypt Records!
DIE! DIE! DIE! - HARMONY
The fourth full length by this outfit from Dunedin, New-Zealand, 'Harmony', brings together the raw energy and emotion from their live shows, encapsulating savant pop elements (à la Bailterspace and Dead C) with their DIY punk philosophy. Produced by Chris Townend (Portishead, D12, Violent Femmes), and bringing back Shayne P. Carter on vocals, 'Harmony' is set to be one of THE albums of 2012.
FATAL FIGURES - CATERWAUL
On this album the band somewhat moves away from the garage rock horror sound for which they've become known. Instead 'Caterwaul' embraces more of a punk'n'roll sound in the vein of Pussy Galore, Cramps, or The Jesus & Mary Chain's first record 'Psychocandy'.
LEADFINGER - NO ROOM AT THE INN
Leadfinger is the nome de plume (and band name) for songwriter/guitarist Stewart Leadfinger Cunningham. Born in Glasgow, Scotland and raised in the southern NSW city of Wollongong, Cunningham has been a fixture on the Australian underground scene for over 20 years. He first plied his guitar-slinger trade in the late 80s with the pre-grunge Proton Energy Pills before heading to Sydney to play in seminal underground guitar bands - Asteroid B-612, Brother Brick and Challenger-7 - and a stint in Melbourne with The Yes-Men - all of these bands released highly sought after records in Australia and overseas. No Room at the Inn revisits classic seventies rock (think Tom Petty, Big Star, Flamin Groovies) without forgetting the bands seminal roots (MC5, Radio Birdman, The Saints). Eschewing modern-day gadgetry and production tricks, the band relied on vintage recording gear and great songs to create an album that could easily be mistaken for a lost seventies masterpiece.
MFC CHICKEN - MUSIC FOR CHICKEN
Named after a London chicken shop, outside of which the members first met, MFC Chicken are becoming one of the hottest garage/R&B rock'n'roll acts in town. For fans of f.i. The Sonics, Wailers, Roadrunners, Syndicate Of Sound and Bobby Fuller Four.
VARIOUS - BABY, SHAKE MIT MIR!!!
'One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Treasure'. So why should you buy just another damn '60s-compilation, huh? "Because, well well, just because", sez Elvis anyway. Actually, the real reason is that while listening to this album you will get the same kind of feeling that you have when you've just eaten the right amount of vanilla ice cream on a hot summer day! The 16 tracks on this varied compilation are great fun for one and all, whether you are into freakbeat, mod, soul, country-folk or some totally demented German über-beat stuff. Just to let you really stay sick and turn blue there's a hilarious novelty song at the end of each side of the record. This comp is not based on the output of a certain label or on a certain style or region (though there is a slight emphasis on Germany since half of the stuff has its origin there). Nope, these are all just truly classy songs, that deserve to get a wider audience! 11 of the 16 tracks have never been reissued before and there are extensive liner-notes on the back-cover. Now grab one of the 500 copies issued and then shake, shout and shimmy along to these tunes! Tracklist: Side A: 1. Don Adams: Dirty Angels (Germany, 1967) 2. The Modern Sounds: Baby Shake Mit Mir (Germany, 1964) 3. Salena Jones: I've Got The Blues (USA, 1967) 4. Sanford Clark: Hard Feelings (USA, 1965) 5. Uwe Spier: Sloop Sloop Loobey (Germany, 1965) 6. The Sound Alliance: The Eremite (Germany, 1967) 7. Johnny Thunder: I'm Alive (USA, 1969) 8. Miss Venus: Der Apoll Vom Bikini Atoll (Germany, 1963). Side B: 1. Vera Palm: Weil Mein Daddy Dich Gut Leiden Kann (Germany, 1968) 2. Sandy Sarjeant: Can't Stop The Want (Germany, 1967) 3. The Wild Voices Of The Marty Cooper Clan: Raunchy (USA, 1963) 4. Big Bee Kornegay: Fiesta Rock'N'Roll (USA, 1958) 5. Jack Hammer: Down In The Subway (UK, 1966) 6. Eddy Mitchell: Tu Ne Peux Pas (France, 1965) 7. Roberto Carlos: Negro Gato (Brazil, 1966) 8. Die 3 Spitzbuben: Rauschgift-Time (Austria, 1968).
VARIOUS - SIN CITY JUKEBOX, VOL. 1
A HOT vinyl only compilation, limited to 500 copies on clear wax. A chance meeting in New Orleans in 2004! The man behind Spoonful met Mr. Herb H. Franklin, who happened to be the cabbie who took him to the city from the airport. The German record collector and Mr. Franklin, who was in his mid-70s then, hit it off pretty well and met frequently during the next week. While checking record stores and eating Cajun food Mr. Franklin told his life story. Born in 1930 in Wiggins, Mississippi, he moved down to the coast town of Biloxi with his parents at the age of 10. He later trained to be an auto mechanic, but as he hated getting grease under his fingernails, he opted to do what he did best - hang out in bars. So in 1950 he took a bartending job at The Smithwick's - a watering hole in Biloxi, just off Beach Boulevard. When his boss retired in 1955, Herb H. Franklin became the new owner of the bar. A month of renovation followed and the place reopened in Fall 1955 as Sin City, an unofficial name, as the sign outside the bar just said "Liquor." Herb said it was a long, rectangular room with a bar on the left, chairs and tables to the right, and a stage for live music at the end. The pool tables were relocated to a side room to make "plenty of space for sinning," according to Herb. There were rockin' bands on the weekends, sweaty dancers every night, and a jukebox that was wired to the house sound system so it could be heard over the general ruckus of the bar. And that jukebox did its work until the mid-1960s, when Herb closed the place. Amazingly, however, every 45 that ever graced the Sin City jukebox remained in Herb's possession. Whenever the jukebox operator came to bring in the new tunes, Herb gave him some small change to keep the replaced ones. As a result, 15 years of serious record collecting took place, without Herb even giving it a second thought. After Katrina hit, Herb relocated to Wiggins with all his records, which luckily had survived the floodwaters in a storage unit. At his new place in Wiggins, Herb built himself a nice music room in the basement. Mr. Spoonful immediately thought of the idea to digitize his vinyl wealth, but it took years to work out the details. But now the wait is over. So, without further ado, here it is - the first volume of Herb H. Franklin's prized collection - the records that rocked the Sin City bar of Biloxi in the 50s and early 60s! Enjoy! And drink a toast to Herb if you like what you hear. SIDE A: 1. BIG MAYBELLE - I'VE GOT A FEELING 2. JIMMY LEE ROBINSON - TWIST IT BABY 3. GROVER MITCHELL - THAT'S A GOOD IDEA 4. EVANS, MONSIEUR JEFFREY -& HIS C.C. RIDERS- - C.C. RIDERS
C.C. RIDERS were: MONSIEUR JEFFREY EVANS (vocals, guitar), JAMES ARTHUR (guitar), JAY REATARD (guitar) and ALICJA TROUT (drums). The band was something of a Memphis super group. Jeffrey Evans had formerly fronted the GIBSON BROS. and was winding down '68 COMEBACK when C.C. Riders formed in 2000. James Arthur, who had recently moved to Memphis from Los Angeles, was an ex-member of FIREWORKS and THE NECESSARY EVILS, Jay Reatard (REATARDS) and Alicja Trout (ex-CLEARS, MOUSEROCKET) were just getting LOST SOUNDS off the ground when Jeffrey asked them to round out the C.C. Riders lineup. In 2001, Alicja and Jay recorded C.C. Riders' self-titled CD. The CDR was released on Trout's Contaminated label; it was hand numbered and limited to only 100 copies. Among the album's highlights is a flushed out version of Evans' stellar original, 'Long, Long Ballad Of The Red-Headed Girl'. C.C. Riders played their last shows and wound down around 2002. Edition of 500 copies.

If ever there was a "band that launched a thousand bands," it would be the Ventures. Founded in Tacoma, Washington in 1958, their guitar-based instrumental sound would prove hugely influential, inspiring countless followers to pick up a guitar, bass or set of drumsticks and try to emulate their heroes. As these musical neophytes would soon learn, it wasn't as easy as it initially appeared.
