  • Happy new year! Here are our garage, beat, surf and rock'n'roll vinyl listings for the first week of 2013. As always, shipping worldwide!

    NEW ARRIVALS - 2013.01

COCO COBRA & THE KILLERS - BABY YOU DONE ME WRONG
4 track EP from the Coco Cobra that is fantastic, killer female fronted gGragePunk with a big G and a big P. After a LP and two CDs the first 7" is finally here. If you know this band think Spider babies but with a female singer and you maybe have it, if not try it you will like it.

STRAITJACKETS, LOS - JET SET (8X7")
A stunning box set containing 8 unique 45s with download of all the tracks from their 'Jet Set' album. A must for all fans of this wonderful instrumental US surf/rock band.

FUNNY DUNNY - THE WAITING GROUNDS
My first sensation as I got this record in my hand was kind odd: at first sight, looking at the cover photo, I thought it was the umpteenth reference to Banda della Magliana style; after a book, a movie, a tv show which is affecting the pose of an entire generation downhere, I can't stand any other 'legendary' Freddo & Co. Luckly, of legendary, Funny Dunny have only the r'n'r' spirit. It is sufficient a listen to Both of You, to catch up their roots, 5 young men from Avellino (southern Italy), and it is like they are not so far from the boundless country living among 50s and 60s. In case You don't agree with me yet, we'll do with Why Did I?, a cover for our gentleman Jerry J. Nixon. Later, with Don't Beleve It we make up our mind and realize that Funny Dunny dress like Monks, - sort of preachers of the word of garage; simply granitic. Mugellos Theme, now get your swimsuit, because band's sound makes us dance like on the surf table, in perfect Trashmen style; and so on with the following B-side track.. I mean, the sea gets rough. The first side of this disc ends with Failure, a melancholic ballad with fuzzed guitar, and Sal Mirabella's voice which recalls Andrea Carminati's from The Kaams. Once again, North and South meet into the surprising national scene of garage panorama. The other half this record takes a more classic 60s British R&B drift. With I've been and Zizinzi, Funny Dunny drown the pain of blues pioneers in a lethal mix of alcohol and amphetamines; but, sometimes, as Pennac writes, you must "forget everything, even the future, and if they don't want to, if they want to remember, well, double shot!". Then it comes Otis, one of those tracks you should play during a lonely walk with no destination, when everything around you is just the frame of what you have lost; I haven't lost my Pazienza yet: "never take a step back, not even to take a run". White Powder Dream, and Funny Dunny tune with that kind of garage punk that I like; a track like Kicks from the Boot is one of those more appreciated podcast from downhere. It ends with the cover of She Said Yeah. When the stones start rolling, nobody can't stop them.

SUBSONICS - IN THE BLACK SPOT
Atlanta's bad-ass bittersweet popsters deliver more primitive rhythms and catchy riffs galore! Subsonics have been called the "Best band in Atlanta" by fellow Georgians BLACK LIPS and for good reason: previous works by this beatnik, noir-punk careen machine have left indelible marks, or black spots if you will, on the psyche of big-bam-boom-shang-a-lang rockers the world over during their nearly two-decade tenure. This new album brings more of singer Clay Reed's petulant, masculine-feminine vocals and surreal lyricism, shaken up with his signature garroted guitar, Buffi Agueros inventive, incessantly churning drumming, and Rob Delbueno's (Man? Or Astroman?) rolling basement bass. On this latest spin, previously unwritten, yet eerily familiar, melodies echo in the catacombs of America's soul and ring throughout with a childish enthusiasm, like a funky delinquent's budget bubblegum album. That we really have here is an obsessive, detached drop-in to an after-hours opium den, where Super-8 movies are projected onto a soiled sheet, and the soundtrack is undeniably Subsonics.

    NEW IN STOCK - 2013.01

    BOURBONS - A DARK CORNER/OF OLD APPROXIMATELY
Great Texas psych from the sixties. The Bourbons were a San Antonio band. A Dark Corner was later covered by the Chesterfield Kings.

CHOB - AIN'T GONNA EAT OUT MY HEART
    From Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1967

PLAGUES - I'VE BEEN THROUGH IT BEFORE/TEARS FROM MY EYE
This track was recorded in 1966 at the famed Fenton Recording Studios in Sparta Michigan and was written by Bill Malone (now a film director). Recently a copy of this record sold on Ebay for nearly $900.00. The Plagues was a Beatle-influenced band from Lansing Michigan who put out their own records. This recording was their swan song as the group disbanded shortly thereafter, a victim of the Draft. This track can be heard in Malone's new film "PARASOMNIA, Dreams of the Sleepwalker", a horror fantasy film.

TREEZ - YOU LIED TO ME BEFORE/ONLY AS LONG AS YOU WANT
Great fuzztone in this one with some tough vocals! Always felt this one was underated.. even though its appreciated. The Treez were from Chicago and this single was recorded in 1966.

    WIG - CRACKIN' UP/BLUESCENE
The Wig were Rusty Wier (drums, vocals), Benny Rowe (lead guitar), John Richardson (guitar), Jess Yaryan (bass) and Billy Wilmont (keyboards). Benny Rowe had been in an earlier version of the band known as the Wigs that had toured Europe. "Crackin' Up" is as exciting as any song cut in the mid-60s. The opening guitar riff is unforgettable for one thing. Rusty Wier's drumming propels the song, his vocals are confident and Benny Rowe's guitar solo is intense. Wier wrote the song.

KING, FREDDIE - FREDDY KING GOES SURFIN'
Syd Nathan, impresario of Cincinnatis King Records, was the epitome of the old-school indie record label owner. Always hustling, Nathan regularly beat the odds to release hit after hit in multiple genres. Hed try anything if he thought it might work, or more precisely, if he thought it would make money. After issuing the hit album Lets Hide Away and Dance Away with Freddy King, Syd sensed untapped potential in the LP. Inspired by the West Coast surf scene, he conjured a little marketing magic...GET A NEW COVER WITH SOME SURF KIDS! THROW SOME CROWD NOISE OVER TRACKS SO IT SOUNDS "LIVE"! CALL IT...ERR...FREDDY KING GOES SURFIN! PRESS IT AND HAVE IT ON THE SHELVES BY NEXT WEEK!!!!!!! While it may not have happened EXACTLY like that, King Records did release the album containing the very same songs (in precisely the same running order) as Lets Hide Away...with crowd noise dubbed over the music. And it WORKED! Fellow Lone Star blues maven Billy F. Gibbons later picked it as one of his Top Ten Favorite Blues Albums of All Time. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Record Technology, Inc. (RTI) and sourced from the original King/Federal analog tapes, Sundazed is proud to present Freddy King Goes Surfin in magnificent mono fidelity. Cowabunga! TRACK LIST: 1. Hide Away 2. KUSTOM KINGS - KUSTOM CITY U.S.A. LP
By 1964, Bruce Johnston was already a proven veteran on the West Coast music scene. Following up the success of the Rip Chords collaboration with Terry Melcher and the hit single "Hey Little Cobra," Johnston revved up the Kustom Kings. With a mission statement " to present the most authentic hot rod album on the market," the Kustom City U.S.A. album brought together an all-star team. Bruce Johnston wrote and co-wrote much of the LPs material, as did producer/arranger/saxophonist Steve Douglas. Rounding out the band were guitarists Tommy Tedesco and Glen Campbell, Ray Pohlman on bass, Jay Migliori on second sax and Hal Blaine on drums-WOW! Tedesco and Campbell lock in gripping guitar duels while Douglas and Migliori wail over the timing belt beat of Blaine and Pohlman. Johnston contributes superb vocal and piano work and together, the Kustom Kings jam the accelerator down to the floorboard! Through the years, word of Kustom City U.S.A. and its brilliance spread through the collector scene, with copies of the LP changing hands for considerable sums. And now, just when you thought the tank was on E, Sundazed roars in with a maniacally marvelous reissue! Sourced from the original stereo masters, Kustom City U.S.A. has been tuned up and restored to showroom condition. TRACK LIST: 1. In My 40 Ford 2. Asphalt Eater 3. Stick Six 4. Fireball 5. Jive Driver 6. Tuck and Roll 7. Super Fine 39 8. Firecracker 400 9. Hey Little Cobra 10. Clutch Rider 11. Hotty 32 12. Speed Shifters.

MISSING LINKS - MISSING LINKS + THE LINKS UNCHAINED 7" EP
Though they have different approaches, a common thread runs through Australian bands like the Saints, Hoodoo Gurus, Midnight Oil and AC/DC: an aggressive, take-no-prisoners posture designed to grab audiences by the throat. This direct crowd-band interaction is essential on the rough-and-tumble Oz pub circuit, where if the group doesnt deliver the goods, theyre likely to go down in a hail of lager cans. Whatever it is that puts the raw in Antipodean rawk, its been there from the beginning. For proof, check the wild, outrageous sounds of the Missing Links. Formed in Sydney in 1964, a series of personnel changes eventually replaced all original members, leaving vocalist Andy Anderson, guitarist Doug Ford, drummer Baden Hutchens, bassist Ian Thomas and Chris Gray on keyboards. It was this lineup that recorded the bands 1965 debut album, The Missing Links. An instant garage punk classic, The Missing Links took the UK R&B combo model and drenched it in attitude and feedback, making contemporaries like the Troggs and the Who appear tame by comparison. The sonic guitar meltdown at the end of "Youre Drivin Me Insane" presages Jimmy Pages Zeppelin liftoff by a full three years while "Wild About You" defies description, except to say it still sounds shocking nearly 50 years on. This slice of vigorous vinyl became one of the most prized acquisitions for garage punk fans the world over, with each successive wave of Down Under musical malcontents spreading its legend. The globe-trotting team at Sundazed has now restored the album in all its magnificent MONO glory! What more could you want? Well, how about the IMPOSSIBLY rare EP, The Links Unchained, featuring four more cuts of mid-Sixties madness!?! For a limited time, Sundazed is offering both of these audacious aural artifacts in one convenient package! TRACK LIST: LP TRACKS: 1. Wild About You 2. Hobo Man 3. Bald-Headed Woman 4. Not To Bother Me 5. Mama Keep Your Big Mouth Shut 6. Some Kinda Fun 7. You're Drivin' Me Insane 8. Nervous Breakdown 9. Speak No Evil 10. On The Road Again 11. All I Want 12. Htuom Tuhs. 7" EP TRACKS: 1. I'll Go Crazy 2. Don't Give Me No Friction 3. One More Time 4. Wooly Bully.

    BACK IN STOCK - 2013.01

MASONICS WITH LUDELLA BLACK - SOMETIMES FRIEND
Having released their most recent album with us in 2007, weve been saving these two Micky Hampshire-penned gems to launch at you when the times right - we feel that time is now approaching! "Sometimes Friend" on the A-side, features band associate and muse Ludella Black on lead vocal, whos a solo artist in her own right and popular feature of Masonics live gigs. She sings over a fast, powerful punk rock tune, giving everything in the process. Every musician powers along through two and a half minutes of sheer excitement, leaving the listener simply wanting to hear it again. This song shows any less mature contenders the door, and is proof that The Masonics still possess much attitude! "Hungry Monkey" on the B, is a slightly sinister jungle tale, played by the male Masonics (Masons?) with Micky singing. Propelled along by a proper tribal beat and featuring an amazing talking guitar solo and flashes of organ(!), you can almost feel the heat and hear the crickets chirping! The first run is limited to 500 copies, pressed on Clear vinyl, and in a paper picture sleeve. The whole package being evocative of late70s punk 45s (perhaps even one in particular?). If any subsequent pressing is undertaken, the records will revert to Black vinyl. Unique recording content :These tracks are exclusive to this single (plus download) and not derived from an album. Recorded at Londons famed Gizzard studios using vintage equipment, resulting in the usual power and feel always to be found on Masonics discs

VARIOUS - LE BEAT BESPOKÉ, VOL. 4
"Le Beat Bespoke" is now a major international event every Easter in London. You may well have stocked volume one, two or three of the record which accompanies it every two years already? In that case, youll probably also be aware of how popular these records are. Restored and mastered to the highest standard on both formats and sequenced like a fast-moving D.J. set, the albums marry seemingly disparate styles into one satisfying sound experience. We think volume four is the best one yet, but well let you be the judge of that. In this collection are often obscure and overlooked underground 'sixties to early 'seventies dance gems from all parts of the world. In some cases, these are so obscure that we are able to find little or no information on the artists. DJ and compiler Rob Bailey (a.k.a."Dr.Robert") has played these sublime sounds on dance floors all over Europe (and beyond). The originals are tried and tested at London club nights like the Mousetrap, Crossfire, Timebox and Zoo Zoo. There, the cool and curious collective gather for nights of hipshakin fun.Once satisfied that these strange intoxicants have no serious side effects, we feel obliged to supply them to other switched-on people across the globe, via this series of compilations.
