Got home yesterday and what was in the mailbox but the Spring edition of Ugly Things. Lots of good stuff throughout but I have to admit that I turned immediately to "Echoes of the Vault" hoping to see it and there it was ... right there under the section title ... UG's review of The Abstracts' "Hey, Let's Go Now!" Woohoo! And penned by the main man himself: Mike Stax.
A couple of nicely captioned pix were included including one of The Abs' lead singer, Al Karp, and me at the tender age of 17 at our very first recording studio session.
Good review. Perceptive. But hey, Mike Stax doesn't have the reputation he has for nothing.
My favorite part of the review was toward the end where Mike wrote:
"Two decent quality live recordings are featured on this set,
the thumping “Your Love” and a frenzied version of “Always,
Always,” each accompanied by enthusiastic screaming from
the captive teenage audience. Abstractmania? Who knew?"
Captive? Damn! I thought we'd hidden their shackles under their skirts! Oh well, truth will out.
