On June 1, 2013 The King Khan and BBQ Show began their latest Asian tour at Cosmic Cafe in Bangkok. It was a fantastic night and the venue was packed. As well as putting on a brilliant show (despite some onstage hassles from a too-drunk fan or two), King Khan and Mark Sultan were great guys, watching the support bands and signing copies of the 7" singles they had on sale. My band Plastic Section were one of the supports (our first gig with our new 3-peice line-up), as were the highly energetic and fun local British/Thai band The Standards.
In other news, Monocle magazine recently published an article about the Bangkok indie scene with some nice photos of underground music venue Fatty's and garage rock groups Yellow Fang, Basement Tape, Rocket Science and others. The latter band, a fantastic grunge/experimental Thai 3-peice, will be one of the supports for Dead Elvis, playing at Cosmic Cafe in Bangkok on June 20. Other supports will be new hardcore band TSOL (who always put on a show, with average song length about 1 minute!) and the great new Bangkok rock band Sangsom Massacre. Should be another great one in the increasingly exciting Bangkok live scene!
