Bangkok, Thailand´s capital, is not known for its music scene, especially not for its garage punk scene, which is what I´d call modest.
A handful of bands, most of them predominantly put together by foreigner residents, play a handful of venues.
Another handful of bands, most assembled by young Thai musicians, play straight punk or hardcore in another bunch of venues. And that´s it.
So...Pussy & The Learjets (www.thelearjets.com) are trying to stir things up a bit.
The band has already hooked up with Bone Clone, a garage outfit fronted by Spike, a singer from Chicago, and the Klong Riders ( Klong means canal, of which Bangkok has many - the city used to be called the Venice of the East, before most of the Klongs had concrete poured into them and were covered with roads, shopping malls and condos. But there are some left and they tend to be extremely polluted). The Klong Riders play a totally unhinged, wild style of instrumental rockabilly surf punk and are currently working on their debut album.
One of the best underground venues in Bangkok is The Overstay, a former brothel, now an excellent bar, hotel and concert venue run by a young Israeli guy called Yuval. Pussy & The Learjets played their packed debut show here and are looking forward to blasting through The Overstay again.
For now though, the band has been asked to unleash their monsoon of noise at two other venues in the Thai capital...
The outrageously fun Pussy & The Learjets are getting down to the crossroads to play the Motorcycle Emptiness Bar on February 3rd!
On February 26th, the band will play a second show at nospace, a trendy Japanese-run art gallery on RCA, Bangkok´s nightlife mile for the city´s young things.
