Social Media... what a bore..

  • So recently I have decided to stick to my guns and try and remain the "ole-fashioned" gal that I once was. When I was a teenager (about 10 years ago), boy was I extreme. I had extreme hatred for basically everything "mainstream". That meant television, cars, large corporations and any shit they were trying to sell me...etc. Now as an adult I have learned it is somewhat difficult to live without certain things and raise a functioning family.

I took a trip to Las Vegas at the beginning of the year (a tag-a-log trip with my husbands company). Out of anywhere I have been, that is the place to go for people watching. I watched people constantly and realized how extremely idiotic people are and how things that are becoming everyday normal habits are just insane.

For instance, (and the major point I'm trying to make) computers and technology and the constant update of stupid shit nobody cares about. Social media is very useful especially when you are communicating with people you don't see in everyday life. Social media is also very abused almost to the point of absolute ridiculousness. When you are facebooking you see everyday anyways, you are a moron. Why not talk to them face to fucking face.

When you talk about what is going on, on facebook, or myspace, or twitter or whatever the hell you are using to make yourself seem "cooler" than you really are. We need to take a step back and look at ourselves and realize that we sound like an absolute douche. Leave the talking about the social media to the 13 year old girls.

I am a victim of it myself. Almost obsessed with reading what other people are up to on social networks. Then comparing myself to other people an how they are perceived on the internet. The constant update of stupid shit like what I made for dinner or ..just dumb stuff that I would barely mention on a real face-to-face conversation.

I am still addicted and that is why I have atleast chosen a "network" that fits me. My taste. I love music, and I have chosen to use Garage Punk hideout instead of major unappealing other social media networks. I have chosen this over the boatloads of other popular sites that are just over the top.

I was also a blogger and I had decided to go back to my pride and joy of journaling. I deleted my blog and got a huge notebook and began to cut and paste a write. It is real. I'm am into doing the real thing. Instead of itunes, I pop on records. Instead of typing in a blog, I write in a notebook.

I still feel the need to be connected to the internet somehow. I still have this blog.. i still have LastFm. I still have an Etsy store. But I am no longer wasting my time with Facebook, Myspace,(do people even use myspace anymore?), Twitter, Blogspot, Pinterest.. whatever else.. No more time wasted.
