Random Old Records Podcast #21 and MORE!

  • Well shit, I haven't updated this page in awhile, but there's been a ton of stuff going on in Random Old Records land. Episodes #20 and #21 have been posted to the feed and the blog, along with a bunch more news, reviews, and exclusive mixes. There's also gonna be an EXCLUSIVE episode streaming on Real Punk Radio at 4 PM EST today, and it's a TIGHT mix of old school funk and soul, plus a bunch of girl-fronted punk rock from the likes of Baby Shakes and Nikki & The Corvettes. Get on that, folks! In case you haven't been following, mainstream music is still terrible, with the big record companies going back to the Rolling Stones well again (AGAIN?!). Everyone's creaming over the absurdly overpriced Exile On Main St. reissue, so it's fitting I kick off episode #21 with a sloppy, torrid cover of "Rocks Off" by a boy/girl duo called The ReachArounds. It RAGES! Who needs "outtakes" created in a studio 35+ years after the fact when you have a bumper crop of passionate rock n' roll from the class of 2010?! In this hour, you'll hear modern classics from Ty Segall, the Unwed Teenage Mothers, Apache, Crusaders Of Love, Garbo's Daughter, The Oh Sees, Bare Wires, Strange Boys, Love City, and more. No need to drop $150 on a museum piece dedicated to the history of rock n' roll when the real thing is alive and kicking and FREE right in your face! Also, there's a bunch of 90s garage punk from the New Bomb Turks, Gories, Oblivians, and others, inspired by the new book by Turks frontman Eric Davidson titled We'll Never Learn: The Gunk Punk Undergut, 1988-2001. http://randomoldrecords.blogspot.com
