Fashion Question

  • A subway ad for a London designer, Kinder Aggugini (no, S.J. Perelman did not make up that name) refers to her line's "rock'n'roll edge."  Now, rock'n'roll is my favorite music, and new, young bands are still making thrilling music, but the time when it had an edge is long past. Were I a fashion designer, trying to seem hot and new, I would describe my edge in some other way.  So: when do you think is the last time rock'n'roll had an edge?

Am I wrong? Is the speed of rock'n'roll a timeless signifier of freshness and vitality? I tend to think the latter, but not the former. Are fuzz and leather* timeless synonyms for rebellion?

*Vinyl in my case; I'm vegetarian.
