Coming in 2013 from Negative Fun Records

  • Red Hex 7", Record Store Day split 7" from Alpha Cop and Carton, Wormwood 7"

Happy New Year!  We have an exciting 2013 planned here at Negative Fun Records.

First, we are down to the last few copies of color vinyl for the She Rides/Dripping Slits split.  Order soon to ensure yourself a copy.  If you live in New England, the split can be found at all Newbury Comics locations. Look for She Rides on tour in March, as they head to South By Southwest and back.

The new seven-inch from Tacoma WA's Red Hex is currently up for pre-order over at our Bandcamp page.  The first 100 copies are pressed on solid red wax and look stunning.  Don't miss out. We hope to see this 7" show up on a bunch of "best of" lists this time next year.

We just finalized plans for our first Record Store Day offering. This is first installment in what we hope will be a long running series of splits, pairing bands hailing from our dual headquarters of North Carolina and NH/VT.
The inaugural release features North Carolina's Alpha Cop and Windsor, VT's Carton.

Alpha Cop's music can be safely described as "post-everything." Carton features current and former members of VT rockers The Pilgrims, Giant Travel Avant Garde and psych heroes Heavy Winged. Think mid 90's post hardcore stuff similar to Drive Like Jehu and Unwound.  Both bands are recording new tracks for this record. The artwork for the split is being sketched by Swamp Thing artist Stephen R. Bissette.  Comic book fans, take note.

Later in the year, we will be releasing a seven-inch from Boston's Wormwood.  Wormwood is a heavy doom/psych project from Doomriders guitarist Chris Pupecki.  We've been talking about putting this record out since the inception of the label.  Look for a mid 2013 release date.  More details will be forthcoming.

Finally, Negative Fun Records will be co-hosting a South By Southwest day party in Austin TX on Saturday March 16th.  We're still finalizing a few of the details, but we can announce that She Rides will be playing, along with our friends from New Orleans, DiNola.  We will be making an official announcement shortly.  See you there?
