Hopscotch Day Party, Catalog Sale, Carton/Alpha Cop Split

  • It has been a busy summer here at Negative Fun HQ. We released the Wormburner – Today Might Be Our Day single back in July, last week brought the release of the anxiously awaited Carton/Alpha Cop split 7”; the first installment of our “Home and Home Series”, and this week we are making two equally major announcements.

    Hopscotch Day Party

Negative Fun Records HQ is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. For the past three years Raleigh has played host to the Hopscotch Music Festival. Hopscotch is a weekend long, underground music festival. The fest plays out across multiple venues throughout downtown Raleigh, and since its inception, unofficial day parties have been a key to the event’s growth and success. This year Negative Fun Records has partnered up with Cherub Records from Richmond, VA, Chicago based music blog Delayed Graffitification and Alpha Cop’s Corbie Hill to bring you Let Feedback Ring – A Hopscotch Day Party.

Legends Nightclub Complex is serving as our host and primary sponsor, along with Richmond based sponsors Steady Sounds Records and Blanchard’s Coffee Co. Our party is taking place on Saturday, September 7th, from 12:00-5:30pm. We have invited 13 bands to play on two stages. For many of the bands, this is their only Hopscotch appearance. You can read more about the party, and the bands who are playing by following this link: http://eepurl.com/DFHlj .

    Catalog Sale

Speaking of Hopscotch, Negative Fun Records made its debut to the world during last year’s festival, with a small promotional campaign. We could probably trace the beginnings of the label to a couple of different dates, but early September sounds like the most appropriate time to celebrate our birthday. Since December we have released four singles. For a new label, four records in nine months feels pretty good. We haven’t been tied to a specific genre, every release has looked fantastic, and sounded even better. We are proud of what we have accomplished and are looking forward to many more years of releases.

To celebrate we will be running a sale starting right now, and running through September. All of our physical releases on Bandcamp have been marked down to $4.00 (plus shipping). However, the better deals are available directly from our website.

Individual records on negativefun.com have been marked down to $6.00ppd to the US, $11.00ppd to Canada and $16.00ppd to the rest of the World.

We have also put together a couple of package deals for you.

You can buy all four records for $17.50ppd to the US, $22.00ppd to Canada and $28.00ppd to the rest of the World.

Just need a couple of records to round out your collection?

You can buy any two seven-inches for  $10.00ppd to the US, $15.00ppd to Canada and $22.00ppd to the rest of the world. (Please be sure to let us know which records we should send you.

This is a great opportunity for our international friends who may have been hesitant to pull the trigger on an order because of the unfortunate spike in USPS shipping rates.

    Carton/Alpha Cop Split 7”

What was intended as a Record Store Day release finally came to fruition on August 20th. While the seemingly endless string of delays was frustrating, we are thrilled with the results. All 300 copies were pressed on stunning white vinyl. The design and artwork looks great, thanks to the talents of our art director Julianna Thomas (read about the concept and execution here: http://juliannathomas.com/2013/06/10/split-7-inch/), and Matthew Barthel, whose son stars on the Carton side of the cover.

That’s all from us for now. We will see you in 2014 with a slew of new releases. If you are in Raleigh for Hopscotch, please come by our party and say hello.
