Well at 5 am this morning I awoke to the sound of an alarm - and when it was still going at 5:30 I knew I wasn't going to get back to sleep - so as usual when I wake early I get up and watch something.
This morning I finally I got to watch 'Ladies and Gentlemen...the Fabulous Stains.'
I've been on the hunt for it for a long long while and finally I tracked down a copy. Stuff like this is really hard to locate in the UK and I resigned myself a long time ago to having to watch a dodgy pirate copy. But finally I get hold of a pristine print.
Now the film has taken on mythic proportions in some quarters and although it's not the greatest plot in the world it's worth watching if only for the sub-shaggs version of join the professional by the Stains.
If you like The shaggs - ie inept, amateurish bands then the Stains are the band for you, as they upstage 'the looters' and invent Riot grll in the process.

Whilst still waiting for the world to wake up I followed this with 'Kill Your Idols' a doc on the No Wave scene and it's recent revival by the likes of Liars and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Lots of testimonies and archive guides us through New York from the 70's to the present - well worth a view if Suicide, Sonic Youth and Lydia Lunch tick any of your boxes.
