El primer álbum de esta banda Neoyorkina tenía uno de los mas alucinantes temas de garage punk que he escuchado en los últimos años “You’ve became a witch” con un fraseo de órgano que hipnotizaba. Desde la edición de ese primer álbum en 2009 hasta este segundo disco solo han dejado un single editado en el sello británico Heavy Soul, que precisamente recuperaba ese “You’ve become a witch”. Desde los callejones de NY The Electric Mess me recuerdan a las bandas que crearon escena alrededor de la tienda de discos Midnight Records en la gran manzana. Impulsora del revival garagero en los 80’s dando salida a los discos de bandas como Tryfles, Cheepskates, Fuzztones o Plan 9,en ese primer trabajo de nombre homónimo podíamos ver a Esther Crow luciendo ojo a la funerala mientras la banda contaba con la ayuda de Ivan Julian (Richard Hell) y Dave Horowitz. Con este mismo equipo han vuelto a contar para este segundo disco. Trece temas que se mueven por la etiqueta garage punk a la perfección, Esther, una cantante con carácter que defiende a la perfección temas como “He looks like a psycho”, “Nice guys finish last” o “Runaway daugther”, detrás se encuentra una banda que fabrica un muro de sonido 60’s con total convicción, las guitarras saben explotar en el momento oportuno, los adornos del teclado sacan brillo a las canciones y la base rítmica con el bajo de Derek y los tambores de Craig es un seguro de vida. Dentro de la amalgama de sonidos que miran al pasado encontramos algún desliz de psicodélica acidez como “I’ll take you anyway”, explosiones de beat que abrasan como ese “Elevator to late” con la guitarra de Dan Crow omnipresente, el hipnótico órgano de “Tell me why” o “The girl with exploding dress” con bonito juego vocal y las seis cuerdas encadenando riffs, y Esther, de nuevo, haciéndose con todo el protagonismo cuando vocea ese “You’re fired”. Un disco que te atrapa a medida que vas desgranando sus canciones. Mientras llega la edición en vinilo que editara el sello Luso Groovie Records, nos permitimos el lujo de ir desgatando la copia en cd que, como su anterior trabajo, ha editado la propia banda.
