At first glance it might appear that my latest podcast, Steve Terrell's Gospel Favorites Vol. 1. is my least "garage punk" podcast so far.
But that ain't right. This is nothing but rough and rowdy American music at its primitive best.
You'll hear Sister Rosetta Tharpe: The Soul Stirrers live with Sam Cooke in 1955; slide-guitar evangelists Rev. Utah Smith (who I first heard on a Sonic Nightmares podcast a few months ago) and Rev. Lonnie Farris (who's even wilder); The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi; Sister Wynona Carr; Uncle Dave Macon; Isaiah Owens who could rightfully be called the Hasil Adkins of gospel; and more.
If they played music like this in a church near me, I'd be there every Sunday!
