Without a doubt, The Types are the top-performing act in Russia playing 60’s garage beat.
“Chicks & Tricks” is their first vinyl release, and to quote the boys themselves, “We don’t record songs,
we lay down a mood.”
The Circo Perrotti Recording Studio in Gijon, Spain where the tracks were recorded is
testament to this. It’s a place that’s been frozen in time since garage beat first hit the scene, decked out with
true-to-the-era analog equipment, showcasing a museum of relics and cultural archives dotting its walls and shelves.
There’s no better catalyst than this to help recreate that sound. The Types’ projection of this vibe is exactly what
Chicks & Tricks is all about. No artificial flavor. No added food coloring. No MSG.
Just pure, unabated 60’s garage-beat, presented in stereophonic, Types-o-rama luster. Let it all hang out.
In 2011 The Types became the first russian underground band honored to participate in the largest American
international festival SXSW in Austin, Texas. They performed together with The Strokes, Foo Fighters, Queens Of
The Stone Age and many others.
During the history of their existence The Types achieved pretty much - laid down a string of fantastic songs,
supported and shared one stage with Iggy & The Stooges, The Offspring, The Incredible Staggers, The Defectors
and other well-respected bands. Apart from that you'll find the band on live-tours in Russia, Europe and the USA,
providing tracks for “Disappeared Empire” by cult film director Karen Shakhnazarov (“Gorod Zero”, “Courier”).
Thanks to their live parties “The Types’ Fridays” in Krizis Zhanra rock club (Moscow) the guys managed to show
the audience the whole layer of the music culture that before was absolutely unknown to Russian people.
We speak about 60ts beat-garage, freakbeat and surf music. Since these parties launched almost all key persons and
bands of the international garage scene visited Moscow and St-Petersburg.
The live show is an obvious strength of The Types. It's a true rock show where the audience as well as the
musicians become the part of it.
The mad energy bursts into the concert hall leaving no chance to the boredom - and the perfectly transmitted it to
this album. The easy-to-rememeber chorus tunes get instantly accompanied by the audience even being heard at
first time. The vintage instruments, winkle picker high-heel Chelsea boots, skinny jeans, short slim jackets and
narrow neckties became a business card of The Types. The musicians are convinced that it’s not only the matter
of WHAT you do on stage but HOW you serve it.
Considering the future plans, The Types prepare tours in Europe and the USA, participation in SXSW 2012 and
other music festivals all over the world - see you there!
