In my mind, there were three sorts of personality types within the punk/post-punk boom of 77:
neurotic sensitive art school kids: Television, Talking Heads, Buzzcocks, Richard Hell, David Bowie (His Berlin period), Joy Division
Lovable,sometimes horny dumbbells: Ramones, Dead Boys, The Damned, Johnny Thunders and the heartbreakers
Sardonic,angry youths: The Clash, Sex Pistols, Sioxuise and the Banshees, Crass, The No Wave crowd
