So I've been on a 70s L.A. punk kick lately and discovered that my favorite of X's first three albums is Wild Gift. Oh, Los Angeles is a classic, don't get me wrong,but something about this album makes it so damn good and I dunno what. Maybe it's because it captures the gritty urban environment they had to survive in. Yet, John Doe and Exene C coped because had each other: this sentiment is expressed in my two favorite songs In this house that I call home and Some Other Time. Actually, now that I think of it, those songs are why I love the album: here, John and Exene's vocals work beautifully.
