sorry for lack of updates, I just haven't gotten around to it. Today, I have some more radio favorites of mine to give to you.
First up, Little Steven's underground garage: http://www.littlestevensundergroundgarage.com/play/archive.html
Yes, I know it's had coporate sponsors in the past, but this is one of the many things (including the film School of Rock, don't laugh) that got me enthused about music, thus I have to give him credit.
And another new one I've been enjoying: http://www.ongoinghistory.com/oghonm/ongoing_history_of_new_music.cfm?recID=1&ell=8943&pge=1
Now, this one has rather redundant information in that there are annual shows that are about the same topic year after year. For instance, there's been a 25 years of punk and 30 years of punk specials with basically the same narration, etc. However, if you poke through the pages, you'll find some interesting shows about the host, Alan Cross' opinion on the 10 essential alt rock cds (note: I have all but two of em) and about building a record collection
and Finally, two film reviews
Boogie Nights: If you enjoy the descriptions of urban sex, sleaze, and drugs on The Velvet Underground and Nico album or Lou Reed's Berlin, you'll enjoy this film about the late 70s porn industry. My favorite actor in the film was John C Reily (star of Chicago and guest star on Tim and Eric's awesome show: http://www.adultswim.com/video/index.html), but the whole cast is great, really.
Sweeney todd: Do you like The Misfits or crave the films of hammer horror or Gordon hershell lewis? Are you amused by Johnny Depp talking in a cockney accent? Well then, you'll love this film. the singing was awkward to me (specially when Depp and Rickman were singing together, but it was still entertaining all around, very bloody and dark humored although I do wish Burton woulda gone with someone different other than Depp (I would have cast David Bowie). I'd say this is Burton's best film since Big Fish. I just wish he wasn't doing a cgi Alice in wonderland after this.
