Every year we end up playing at a couple of Halloween parties. Sometimes it's at a club. Occasionally we play for a house party. Unless you know the hosts intimately, you never know what it's going to be like. Sometimes it can be extremely odd.
This happened to be the case this year. We were asked to play a house party about a week ago. The plan was for Kelp to play before a rockabilly band followed by a punk band. There would be over a 100 people at the party. Sounds like fun, right?
We should have assumed that there was something wrong when we found out that we were the only band. Or when we were greeted by a guy in a black suit playing a Squire strat performing guitar solos next to a fire. Or when we saw that the house and yard were out of a Mad Max movie. Or better yet, when we saw that every room in the house had a motorcycle parked in it.
We played for about an hour, packed up and got out. The crowd seemed to like us and thdey got it. But the vibe was ringing of bad news.
Next up? Kelp in the annual Santa Barbara Christmas Parade. God bless us all, everyone.
