INDIE BONFIRE NIGHT*
...bring an indie friend to throw in the fire...
*Management don’t take any responsibility for any harm towards indies
Rockaway Freaks are a collective of musicians, music lovers, market traders, promoters, full-time slackers, named after a famous Ramones song, which have recently been very active promoting garage-punk-surf-psychedelic-rockabilly live performances all around London, with a main focus on the areas of Hackney and London Bridge. “Indie Bonfire Night” is an attempt of withstanding the mainstream indie music that haunts all the area of East London. Our deadly weapons are fast songs, urge to dance, drinks with friends, care for fun and the lovely atmosphere of the Second Floor Café, close to Stomp Studios, the main headquarters of the Freaks.
The evening will feature four wild acts: The Moon, Milky Onions, The Kandy Kane Kids, The Nightjars!
The Moon posses the awesome showmanship and songs that recall The Stooges 'Raw Power' era. The vocals growl, the guitar rips into you and guts you with the searing riffs and the drums pound creating more noise than Hurricane Felix. The Moon are ready to fill the indie night of Hackney with their own heavyweight brand of garage rock. Their music has been said to be “a speculation on what may have come of the Stooges after the phenomenal 1974 post-glam hangover album they never got to record”. Energy, fun, rock’n’roll.
Milky Onions are a bunch of freaky prisoners in Indie Town, Hackney, ready to break out and fight for freedom! Their music’s mindful of garage and psychedelic “sixties” band, of blues and articulate Brian Wilson-like pop. Wrapped in rich effects and sounds, the band can boast of a violin and keyboards that immediately remind Al Kooper, Ray Mazarek and Chris Cacavas. The living proof that nursery rhymes and savage cries may hang together!
The Kandy Kane Kids are an overactive psychedelic-garage rock trio from London (one third is actually from Sardinia) that is getting deeper and deeper into the appreciation of connoisseurs. Obsessive riffs, swinging rhythms are part of the repertoire of a band that brings the Sixties up to date with a fresh sound and all-involving live performances.
The Nightjars, swooping in from the dark crevasses of East London, have arrived to bludgeon your ears with a blunt instrument. Using the fuzzy backbone of sixties garage and the age old rhythms of the bluest of blues they have created a cocktail of audio chaos to be consumed with caution.
