Some call it garage, some call it punk, we call it TRASH.
From the Medway delta in the UK, and following in the tradition of Billy Childish and The Prisoners came 4 young men determined to re ignite punk rock.
Fast forward 20 years, 10 albums, a dozen 7" singles, numerous tours of the UK, Europe and the last decade spent conquering the USA and you have before you:
a) the finest exponents of garage and punk in the UK today,
b) 4 older and wiser men still determined to re ignite punk rock and
c) The main ingredient for a top night out (just add Guinness)
This, their 20th year in this business they laughingly call show, brings 7" vinyl EP's out on Braindart and Criminal IQ in the USA, and further releases with Damaged Goods , Crypt and Goner records. Once again they are touring the USA, culminating in a headline show at Memphis Gonerfestival at the request of The Oblivions.
So who are this group who could name drop Nirvana, Blur and the White Stripes as fans (but choose not to... oh we just did)?
They are ARMITAGE SHANKS, punk rock personified.
See them with very special guests, the band described as the sound of The Clash falling down the stairs and landing on Lemmy, Carbondale, Illinois' own - Hippie Repellent.
Armitage Shanks new vinyl EP released on Chicago’s Criminal IQ Records (MOTO, VeeDee, The Krunchies, Canadian Rifles, and Baseball Furies) in conjunction with this rare U.S. visit will include: LOUIE LOUIE MUSIC / UNCLE JOHN / PUNK ROCK MILLIONAIRE
The Medway To Memphis tour is kicked off with a free show in Chicago at the Bottom Lounge on Saturday, September 18 and continues with shows in Carbondale (PK’s - Monday the 20th), St Louis, and concluding in Memphis. The St Louis show is at the Crack Fox on Wednesday September 22nd and will add The Nevermores (featuring former members of Thee Lordly Serpents, The Fuzztones, Geargrinders & Tomorrow’s Caveman). Also rumored to appear is Sturdy Gurlesque (http://www.modelmayhem.com/1070947), an act sure to melt your heart. To promote the St. Louis show, the band will be performing live earlier in the day for Jeff Hess’ Afternoon Delight radio program on 88.1FM KDHX.
The tour is to conclude in Memphis with the 4 day annual event, Gonerfest, which is sponsored by the label/record store, Goner Records. Dick will be charming the audience as MC for the Friday night Gonerfestivities featuring a reunion of garage punk greats and Memphis natives, the Oblivians. Saturday night, the Armitage Shanks will share the stage with two more legendary bands, New Bomb Turks and Guitar Wolf.
