CHRW's Radio What Wave and Speed City Records Present: A Nite Of Powerpop!!!
Starring:
Paul Collins Beat....seminal, highly influential recording artist Paul Collins got his start with the legendary Nerves, the powerpop trio that also featured Peter Case and Jack Lee. The Nerves wr...ote and performed 'Hanging On The Telephone', the powerpop anthem that you may be familiar with via the more popular Blondie version. Recently, The Nerves have had a couple of albums of unreleased, live and demo recordings released on Alive Records that have brought the band a whole new set of fans. After The Nerves, Paul Collins formed The Beat, their 1979 Columbia LP featured the powerpop anthem, 'Walking Out On Love' considered by many to be one of the best songs of the genre. To avoid confusion with the UK band of the same name, they were christened Paul Collins Beat, touring and releasing records throughout the 80's. Later moving to Spain, touring Europe and Asia while producing some of Spain's finest garage bands, Paul has never left the music biz and is now releasing solo records of roots rock meets powerpop. On this tour, Paul will be accompanied by his usual Spanish touring band. http://www.myspace.com/paulcollinsthebeat
Mother's Children....Ottawa combo that mix powerpop/glam and rock'n'roll in a combination that'll take you back to the mid 70's when The Raspberries and Sweet were played on the coolest of AM radio stations. Their first release was a 7' on the record label to watch out of Ottawa, Going Gaga Records, home to The White Wires and many other soon to be underground stars. Mothers Children have just released an LP on the Canadian punk label, Deranged, which is sure to make many top 10 lists this year. http://www.myspace.com/motherschildren
The 905's....Brampton powerpop combo that'll take you right back to those wild and crazy late 70's days when The Buzzcocks, The Vibrators, Teenage Head etc were rocking like there was no tomorrow. The 905's have self released 2 CD's that were in constant rotation at CHRW in London Ontario. And the 905's have done the ultimate tribute to Teenage Head, 'Hamilton Head' one of my fave songs from 2007! http://www.myspace.com/andybutlerandthe905s
The Walnut Kids...another up and coming powerpop meets rock'n'roll meets garage combo that'll have the kids up and dancing like there's no tomorrow. These youngsters hail from Montreal and have just released their first 7" on Ottawa's Going Gaga Records. http://www.myspace.com/thewalnutkids
