After several months of curdling, belches, screams, bubbling, scratching ancient symbolism into dead trees and feeding gutter - dwelling avians, Ex Gratia Recordings is proud to present the new LP by the absurdest genii that is RUDE MECHANICALS - The Cyclops and the Wildebeest.
This long playing stereophonic platter contains audio artefacts from the Library of Obscure Wonders, curated by Erreth Sondabeng at the behest of the Library's founder Miss Roberts. Notable contributors are the Rude Mechanicals - Lynda Beast, Cos Chapman, Guy Avern and Tommy G.
Serving as testament to the spirit of D.I.Y. ethics, a 45 minute audio exploration into the good, the bad and the taxidermist, has been forged from sixteen hours of Mechanical insanity. With a minimum of overdubs, the majority of the music being presented within this offering are début performances of the work. We at Ex Gratia hark back to the days of recording LP's as whole pieces and to hell with cherry-picked products, that get polished with a plastic flannel. Punks not dead, it just got weirder..... .not wanting to attempt to pigeon hole Rude Mechanicals, for that would indeed, be a futile exercise when it comes to this band.
All we can talk about is the themes, the pointers, the old wooden sign posts to paradise, with the corpse of a local brigand hanging from it. They have bestowed upon us ideas that appear timeless in their appeal to humanity and have yet again, interwoven a juxtaposition of their gentile nature and all the grime they can muster... religion – very dodgy sounding men of the cloth, automatic clergy - personal, sex – yes... and … monsters... ghosts...
The Cyclops & The Wildebeest is a bestiary of revelations, the temptations of the other and the way of all flesh. Expect raw Mechanical rock n roll, jazzed outer limits, prank rock, off - kilter time signatures, socially scientific commentary of an explorable nature and tales of wonder and excitement.
The album is released on limited vinyl (first 50 copies all having unique designed covers) and on download from punkvert.tv/ exgratiarecordin gs
The launch party takes place at our most coveted Ex Gratia resort - Inn on the Green, 3-5 Thorpe Close, Ladbroke Grove, W10 5XL on Saturday 30th January 2010 c.e.
