The Quarter After (Los Angeles)
The Quarter After formed in the first year of our young century in the Campanella’s home town of Los Angeles. The brothers started jamming with a young bass guitar wizard from Ohio, Dave Koenig (ex- Brian Jonestown Massacre, currently Spindrift) and dynamic veteran east coast drummer Nelson Bragg (now in the Brian Wilson Band) to create a propulsive and sympathetic rhythm section to their psychedelic/folk sounds. The quartet came of age in the burgeoning L.A. psychedelia scene alongside such bands as the Beachwood Sparks, the Warlocks, and the Tyde. After honing their live show playing gigs up and down the West Coast, the Quarter After were personally chosen by Arthur Lee and Love to be the only opening band for his first show in seven years after being released from prison. Along with new bass player Victor Peñalosa, and substitute drummer Joel Williams, national and west coast tours followed, sharing the stage with bands such as the Black Angels, the Lovetones, the High Dials, and the Brian Jonestown Massacre (of which brother Rob is an on-and-off-again member), as well as an appearance in 2006 at SXSW. The band is now looked upon by those in the know to be one of the leaders in the "3rd Wave Of Psychedelia," and selections from the band’s first record were chosen to be on the Turn On Your Mind compilation released by Psyilocybin Sounds and Northern Star Records’ Psychedelica: Volume II compilation.
Asteroid#4
The Asteroid No.4 is from Philadelphia and have been releasing records and touring consistently since the later half of the 1990s. Rooted deep in psychedelic music, specifically that of the 1960s and early 1990s British bands, A4 has never shyed away from wearing their influences firmly on their sleeves. Dabbling in everything from Anglo-induced guitar pop to the "Cosmic American" sounds of vintage L.A. country-rock outfits, the band has never lost site of it’s goals, which was to become themselves.The group has now been a solid core line-up for over three years which has enabled them to properly support "An Amazing Dream". 2007 was an active year with two separate tours of the UK and several outings throughout the US. They are, for the first time, a group of like-minded individuals set on a course as key figures of the "3rd Wave of Psychedelia". Their latest effort, "These Flowers of Ours: A Treasury of Withcraft & Devilry" will be released in May/June of 2008 on the bands newly signed-to label, The Committee to Keep Music Evil. The label, started in-part, by Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, is a home where similar modern psych bands from around the globe can do what they want creatively minus interference from "the man". 2008 will be a big year for the Asteroid No.4, with the release of their 5th full-length and tours throughout North America and Europe in tow.
