LOS DUDES (9:30 PM)
"Lakeside all-stars Los Dudes" (NY Music Daily) kick off the festivities. Jesse Bates' current line-up includes Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, (go-to guitarist for Steve Earle, the Yayhoos, Del Lords, The Bottle Rockets, Joan Jett, Mojo Nixon, Blood Oranges, Blue Mountain, Freedy Johnston and Mary Lee's Corvette), Murphy's Law alumni Erick Hartz (guitar), and Todd Irwin (drums); and Bob Cerny of The Holy Cows (bass). This from Fleshtones guitarist Keith Streng: "What I recommend for you to see is a band from New York called Los Dudes. Jesse Bates. He's a great songwriter. It's the one band in the past two years that I've really thought were a good live band and really enjoyed." (Keith is also a sometime member of Los Dudes.)
BAND OF OUTSIDERS (10:30 PM) "Band of Outsiders have been around the world. But their music still has its roots in the East Village" (East Village Radio) . Since last playing Local 269 in June, the group has appeared at the CBGB Festival (http://www.eastvillageradio.com/content/content.php?id=4185) and the Max's Kansas City Reunion, celebrating two of the band's earliest NYC venues. Marc Jeffrey and James McCarthy (guitars), David Lee (bass), and Richard Maurer (drums) recently released "Sound Beach Quartet" which NY Music Daily called "a fair approximation of Band of Outsiders’ intense, crescendoing live show – and one of the best rock albums of 2012." CERTAIN GENERAL (11:30 PM)
Called "one of the great lost bands of New York" by Kris Needs, Certain General's brand of ravishing psychedelic mayhem stoked a large following at clubs of the day like CBGBs, Hurrah, Peppermint Lounge, the Mudd and the legendary Danceteria. Albums appeared on several labels, including some in France where they became popular after touring Europe in the mid-80s. Although various personnel and label changes have occurred over the years, Singer-guitarist Parker DuLany and guitarist Phil Gammage, along with drummer Kevin Tooley, continue to record and perform. Their latest release "Stolen Car" was cited by Bucketfull of Brains as "a record of skill and invention, of instrumental virtuosity that renews our belief that music as a savage art can empower." TONGUES ON FIRE (12:30 PM) Formed in the mid 1980's in NYC's East Village, TOF was a staple at CBGB's and many other Downtown venues. The band at the time consisted of Shauna Laurie, Roger Stoltz, Chuck Cornelis and guitarist David Lee (yes, Band of Outsiders' David Lee). Shauna also played a spell with Certain Certain General. And Shauna and Roger (and David) played on Marc Jeffrey's 1990 solo album "Playtime". Recently reunited, TOF are working on some of Shauna's new tunes and playing a few from the past, gigging in NYC and looking forward to a new CD to be released in 2012.
That's right - four sets of great music. Bastille Day in New York, storm the Local 269. This revolution will not be televised. (Although it might turn up on youtube...)
