    • Hi folks!

I'm from Europe. Anyone knows a Garagefestival in July/August around San Francisco / LA / San Diego ?

      Thanks!

    • It's called Therapy. It's on Pike & Broadway. It's pretty cozy which is rad cause it makes the shows feel like house party shows. And house party shows have always been my favorite.

    • I'm no longer in a band (haven't been for years) but am curious which bar you run.

    • I run a bar on capitol hill and we're currently booking bands. I figured, where better to find bands than among my fellow garagepunkers. If you're interested send me a link to some tunes or a video of a show or whatever and we'll set it up.

      Cheers

    • I tried getting the people who did (do?) Studio 66 at the Lo-fi interested in a major Garage Rock fest but they kind of hesitated.

    • It's been more than a decade since the last Garage Stomp rocked the Northwest. I think that we need a new Garage/Wild Rock 'n' Roll festival in Washington. New Orleans has the Ponderosa Stomp, Memphis has Gonerfest, even Oakland has Budget Rock. The Seattle/Tacoma area should have its own. We've got great bars, beautiful parks, awesome weather in the late Summer, heck, we even have legal weed, not to mention a garage rock history that matches up with any other part of the country. This town needs to get shaken out of it's indie-folk coma and I think a weekend of some good, loud, real rock 'n' roll would do the trick.

    • Thanks Alex, I will have a look what's on once we are in town. I have been at Dante's many years ago, but had forgotten the name of the club until now that I read it. Do you happen to know about any 'affordable' hotels in the cool parts of town(and which are those?). We prob want to stay more than a night in Portland so it'd be nice to have the hotel close to the action.

      For Portland: Check out-

Club 21, Slabtown, Tonic Lounge, Dante's, Kenton, Omalley's etc for shows

Green Noise, JAckpot, Everyday Music and Crossroads for vinyl.

    • Thanks Shaun, if we spend the night in Vegas I will try to get a hotel close to those bars. Are there in the same area, more or less? The Double Down sounds familar, I might drank there once when on the road with a band, but as a local chick drove us there I got no idea where it was. And it might as well could have been a totally different place, it was a looong night ;-)

You got a link for your band where I can check for gigs?

    • Thanks Stanton, yes we will be driving through Utah and if there's time I will check some of those stores. Anything you would consider a must see or do in Utah for a tourist? I checked and there seem to be some interesting state parks along our way.

Only one good previously loved vinyl store in town but the prices are out of control.  One decent used gear store in town goes by the name of Cowtown Guitars.  Only two bars I go to are Frankie's Tiki Room and The Double Down Saloon.

      PRESS RELEASE

POWER POP-A-LICIOUS 2 MUSIC FEST MOVES TO

      THE CAKE SHOP, NYC FEBRUARY 1 & 2 2013!

After being postponed due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Power Pop-A-Licious 2 music festival will now take place on Friday, February 1 & Saturday, February 2nd at Cake Shop in New York City. *

Conceived and curated by power pop legend Paul Collins (co-founder of THE NERVES, THE BREAKAWAYS and THE BEAT), the fest will bring together some of the finest young guitar-driven power pop, garage rock and punk-pop bands from the eastern seaboard and Canada. Of the lineup, Collins says, “Power Pop-A-Licious 2 is a unifying rally cry for the thriving rock-n-roll subculture, and is a means for power pop fans of all ages to discover a wealth of talented new acts in one power-packed weekend.”

Collins explains the concept behind this year’s festival: “I wanted to keep the spirit of last year’s fest going. It was going to be a challenge to come up with a whole new bunch of bands that I personally believed in and that I thought meant something… In the end we were able to do that. All these bands are serious about what they are doing; they are all out there trying to make something happen, I am proud to be able to help them achieve that goal.”

Power-pop-A-Licious 2 is ground zero for a burgeoning DIY power pop scene fueled by the devotion of its fans, the immediacy of the internet and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Each day will feature bands from the East Coast that are left right and center of the new generation of the guitar driven melodic rock scene.

Collins adds: “Today’s power pop bands blend punk, garage, retro-power pop, and psychedelic into one swirling sound. Personally I am not a purest about power pop, I am more interested in promoting bands that have cool songs and use electric guitars to get their point across.”

Tickets for the fest are $10 and will be available in advance from Brown Paper Tickets.

*Originally planned to take place at the fabulous Asbury Lanes but moved to NYC as a result of Hurricane Sandy…our deepest thanks to both Asbury Lanes and Cake Shop for their support.

PAUL COLLINS is Power Pop's greatest champion and spokesperson. Through extensive worldwide touring, and connecting to like-minded bands, artists and fans through social networking sites, Paul has created THE BEAT ARMY, a DIY network of people connected by their love of power pop, punk, new wave and rock-n-roll to help ensure its success at the club level - where rock-n-roll lives and breathes. While THE BEAT ARMY only began in March 2010, Collins has already amassed over 3,000 members. In addition, he's been touring heavily in support of both THE BEAT ARMY and his new album KING OF POWER POP! (Alive Records). "Since forming THE BEAT ARMY we've done 150-plus shows throughout the South, Canada, East Coast, Midwest and the West Coast involving over 100 bands from around the country," Collins states. "The shows all have low ticket prices (averaging from $8 to $10) and we book them ourselves. 'By the people, for the people'... that's our motto."
