LA is hit n miss as far as what is going on at a club on any particular date. Check out the LA Weekly and LA record websites:
Here are some places where you may find some going ons, depending on a particular day of the week:
And ocassionally these venues will have something worth checking out:
The Juke Joint (Anaheim)
The Observatory/Constellation Room (Santa Ana)
Burger Records in Fullerton also has a lot of bands play at the store.
DJ Nights:
Lot's of different bars have DJs spinning music on different nights. Here arre a few that might interest you.
Hooefully some others will speak up, as I don't claim to be in the know anymore, and the LA area is a pretty big place.
These are all great locations/venues above ^^^
I know La Cita (not too far from the Redwood) has some cool shows from time to time. Killer little spanish dive located in downtown LA. Also Check out Permanet Records over in Highland park. Great selection of Punk/Garage/Psych vinyl and weekly in-store shows.
The Echoplex (located right below the Echo) is also a great spot for shows, The Smell (downtown) will also have some cool all ages lineups from time to time as well.
Also Check out El Cid, Los Globos, and Silverlake Longue in Silverlake, these venues have been know to put on good shows as well.
Hope this all helps! Welcome to LA!
