    • Rankin/Bass are my heroes.  Rudolph has to be on TV soon, probably missed the first showing already.

We used to go door to door choiring as kids in a large group to raise money for some effort.  Good intentions but looking back we must have been so annoying.  I can't imagine having to sit through a 2:30 version of a xmas song sung on your front porch.

    • We don't have too much caroling going on in my city (at least I don't think we do)...As far as the claymation specials, are you referring to the Rankin/Bass stop-motion dolls?

The choirs that sing the carols no one has ever heard before, or some garbage variation of a good one.
That's pretty much the only thing i dislike about Christmas, that and those stupid claymation christmas movies. I want every copy to burn in fiery hell

    • Funny you mention that, I don't think I've ever seen it neither....

^I don't remember that second series commercial - the life & adventures of Santa Claus.  Guess that got dropped from the annual replays.  Thats what they get for not having the Heat Miser in it.

    • If you want plenty of cheese for Christmas, check out the "reunion" of Bo and Luke Duke in this late '80's TV movie that aired on CBS, "Christmas Comes To Willow Creek":

Ratings-wise, this pulled in quite a few "Dukes" fans who were still reeling from the cancellation of the series. I don't think this is quite the reunion they had in mind.

    • ....I can still embrace the cheesiness of Xmas , tho' I don't listen to a lot of Holiday songs , even the Rock 'n' Roll ones. My faves are "Merry Christmas , Everybody" by Slade , "Sock it To Me Santa" by Bob Seger , "Christmas in The Congo" by Teddy and The Tall Tops , all The Sonics and Wailers' Xmas songs , Elvis - "Santa Claus is Back in Town" , "Merry Christmas , Baby" , all the James Brown XMas songs , particularly the bizarro world "Hey , America", and "In The Time of The Season" (Set to "Inna Gadda Da Vida".) by Dimentia 13 (Not released . I'm probably one of the only people that have heard it , or their anti - Deadhead song , "Do The Jerkoff , sadly not released.).

I wish I could remember the podcast on this site that I used for the audio of this Xmas Card. Perhaps someone can remind us all.  I put this together for my family a few years ago and the recent story of a woman pepper spraying shoppers so she could get her hands on an xbox makes part 1 of this card more poignant than ever.

    • I am an admitted car snob, but I am no fan of "art cars".  I include "theme cars and bikes" and Ratrods in that same subheading. Anything built for shock value is only going to be topical for a small period of time. I try my damnedest to build timeless and well thought out cars and bikes.

    • I went along to the launch night of this excellent exhibition curated by Gaye Advert, it features various paintings and artworks from Punk Rock and alternative musicians including Billy Childish, MC5, Robert Pollard from Guided By Voices, Thurston Moore, Crass, Grant Hart from Husker Du, The Briefs, UK Subs and many more...Anybody else been to see this exhibition yet?

There's a feature and photos of the launch night up on the Retro Man Blog here...

    • Good editing, I'd say.

Yea, from my own experience as a kid, it would be a feat in its self if that car didn't launch off the track a few times. And unless there were a dozen cameras, you couldn't catch all of that so well. But that said, a very cool track and video, the pool jump funnel was pretty cool.

It reminds me of the Matchbox cars I used to have when I was a kid, complete with track and catapults. How long was the track and how fast was the car going? It must be all the editing that made it seem faster than it was.

If I had those launchers, track and Matchbox cars, I'd stick ten launchers in series, make ten stations, and make a track that goes from Blackheath Common to the O2 (most of the route is downhill).
