    • I was pretty sure it was too good to be true because the idea of the academy actually recognizing someone of quality is laughable. But it's a fucking great farce and I for one love a good farce and touch of whimsy in my life.

    • If he ever made a legit album (especially in '67) I'd be all for it, but he didn't. And because of this, I can't see it as anymore than a publicity stunt...and something to shock people. I hate to say it, but any "former cult leader" with a wild personality in prison could write some songs and sing them and have a following. It's the truth. I like some of his songs because I see them as something unique and because it's kind of a shame that they weren't finished really. Also...I really don't know how I feel about his whole story in general. So I can't speak about the murders.

    • I personally like a great deal of his music. Especially a lot of the stuff from the 1967 sessions. Cease To Exist is a great song, which is why the Beach Boys used it. The only thing I hate is that a lot of his songs are not finished (I know why, but still) If they were, I'd like it a whole lot more and consider him a very unique folky type artist who had his own sound (The only guy I think comes close is Jake Holmes in my opinion).  Which he still does with or without ending in those sessions, but many of his later songs that even have endings just don't make sense to me...that's what LSD does to a man I guess.

Still waiting for 'Chuck Berry, the lost toilet sessions' box set!

Is this shameless promotion of something that no-one really cares about anymore or are they serious just to try and be controversial? Charlies music certainly isnt great and, as somebody said, is collected as a curio. wont it make it a mecca for the 'more out there'?

    • I'd start with Cars or Celebration. Celebration is raunchy and magical. Car was the first one I read and a great 'gateway' drug as the story isn't too far out there. Either way, you win.

    • Terry Pratchett is wonderful and it is a crime that he is sick. Mostly all of the Discworld books are brilliant. I'm a huge fan of Snowcrash by Neil Stephenson Jennifer Government by Max Barry.
