    • I had never heard of OSH. Picked it up because of the name. Now I'm hooked. I love all the trappist ales; but Orval is my fav. I also like other Belgian beers such as Duvel and Hoegaarden. I wish that I liked the hoppy stuff. A lot to choose from such as all the Rogue ales. I do like Dead Guy Ale though.

    • Old Speckled Hen sounds familiar; I'll have to look for the Orval bottle.
The hoppier the better for me!

    • My favorites are "Old Speckled Hen"-English brew...somewhat bitter and bready or doughy. Orval (expensive, but great. Plus the bowling pin bottle is kinda neat).

I like IPAs and Pales as long as they're not too hoppy; but this will probably change.

    • I love Furious beer, an IPA made by the Surly Brewing Company.  Another favorite right now is Moon Man by New Glarus.  Good stuff!

    • When it comes to whiskey, my favorite is Tullamore Dew. For Bourbon, it's Knob Creek. And I'm a big fan of the Bloody Mary, too.

    • ...whenever I do, I prefer a Jim Beam and Coke, a Captain Morgan and Coke, or a Jack and Coke, followed by a beer. I don't have a particular brand of beer, but I am partial to Sam Adams, Beck's Dark, and Red Stripe. Sometimes I'll have a Bloody Mary, if the venue has a really good brand of mix, as opposed to just tomato sauce.

    • Yeah, they wanted me to be booze free when I was taking isoniazid for TB. I had one drink each night and got liver tested frequently. No harm done.

    • big bummer, hope it isnt anything serious... you re lucky it's only 2 months, i had to stay absolutely booze-free for 1 year! beer never tasted the same after that :-)

    • A short while back I had to give up booze for 18 months. It was a real pain to start with but once you get the hang of it is actually quite good fun, and you save quite a bit of money. I realised that I could go out and dance to bands and have a good time and act like a total fool without having to have drunk anything at all. The main downside was coming home at 3am-ish and then not being able to sleep because I'd been drinking coke all night.
Best of luck with it mate.

    • One of my greatest fears in life... good luck!

    • May 19, 2010 12:45 PM CDT
    • Sucks, sort of, but first they said 4 weeks, because my liver enzymes are high.  Then when my numbers didn't change they tested me for hep.  No hep so they did an ultrasound.  No fat or abormalities, so they tell me to do a blood test again in 2 months and meanwhile no booze!

Well, fortunately there's a non-toxic industrial alcohol (technically a diol) which makes me feel better than booze.  So I'm chilling with this no alcohol thing.

    • I need to get back into brewing. It's been over ten years since my last batch. Looking forward to seeing your recipes for an IPA. I'd love to try brewing that one myself.

    • I did the Mr Beer bit last year. The two brews (Black Cat Ale and something "ator"; maybe dominator) came out ok. Perhaps I'll try it agin.

    • I really love IPAs, too. In fact, it's probably my favorite beer style. I can't get enough of it. Sooo many good ones out there, too. I don't know how readily available this one is for folks outside of St. Louis, but it's one of my favorites: O'Fallon 5-Day IPA

    • I love Lagunitas and Stone! Great Cali beers. I'm still working on talking my boyfriend into homebrewing. He'd be great at it.

      Salute!

    • Wow, a discussion group about drinkin', alright!

Beer for me, i'm a sucker for IPA.

I have a small grocery market down the street that stocks Lagunitas, their Maximus IPA is not too shabby. Reminds me of the stuff i used to brew.

Been a while since i brewed anything, been inspired to brew my own batch of IPA or other hoppy variety, hopefully in the next week or so. Looking forward to getting back into it.

      Cheers

    • I'm actually in the midst of writing a pulp. rather than going hard boiled I'm more akin to The Spider and the Spirit meets Doc Savage. I'll post a first chapter soon-ish

    • Great idea Kopper. It's no secret to those who know me that I love beer, and well, drinking in general. Here are a few current faves.

      Beer:
      Driftwood Brewery Farmhand Ale
      http://driftwoodbeer.com/beers/farmhand-ale/

      Brew Dog Punk IPA
      http://www.brewdog.com/punk_ipa.php

      Cocktail:
      Arnold Palmer,
In a tall glass, fill with ice, then add,
      1 1/2 oz of vodka
Fill half of remaining glass with lemonade
Fill the rest with iced tea

If you do the lemonade first, you should get a nice sunset fade in the glass. You can add a lemon wedge if yer feelin' fancy.

      Cheers!

    • Blushin Russian is now on the list... thanks!

    • May 19, 2010 11:09 AM CDT
    • Niiiice. If you;re feelin' lazy, try out a Blushin' Russian. Just use Cherry vodka in place of plain and throw in a splash of grenadine. Gives is a rosy hue and tastes like maraschino cherries.

    • I don't really go with mixed drinks. I'm a straight whisky man or yuenglueng lager if I can get it.

    • May 19, 2010 11:04 AM CDT
    • Snickers Martini
      - 1 ½ oz Van Gogh Caramel
      - ½ oz chocolate liqueur
      - ½ oz amaretto
      - ½ hazelnut liqueur

      Serve over ice.
