The home bar craze started post WWII, as more Americans realized the dream of home ownership (late 1940’s to early 1970’s being my unofficial Golden Years). As families migrated more and more to the suburbs, they found themselves enjoying entertaining at home. Probably because as first-time home owners, they truly busted their asses to get into a house– saving every nickel (they’d never even consider defaulting on a mortgage), and when they finally settled on their dream house, they were truly proud of it, and wanted to show it off to friends and family alike. Also restaurants and bars were still largely urban back then. It would be many years before the suburbs were teaming with every silly “TGI– what is that ridiculous friggin’ costume” restaurant/bar franchise. The other great thing back then– the “politically correct” culture of today was not around to stop grownups from socializing– sans kids. Back in the day, entertaining the children was what the TV upstairs was made for. With the kiddies safely locked away watching Rawhide, the adults were free to to enjoy top-shelf spirits, Chesterfield smoky treats, and boozy, adult conversation in the privacy of their own homes– truly paradise on earth.

So, if you have any questions, advise, or ideas you would like to share about home bars or throwing a rockin' party, do it here
Jimmy Saville was a popular one this year. That said, he looked like an aging proto-chav.
I'm going as Divine in Pink Flamingos! Should be filthy fun! I also dressed up as a rad trashy diner waitress for an event over the weekend.
Going as me.. creepy!
Last year's effort. Tube of latex skin works wonders with some face paints!
I'm going as Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice. Which actually reminds me, I have to cut my bangs tonight...
My boyfriend is going as Coach McGuirk from Home Movies. We ditched the idea of couple's costumes this year.
going as a 50's sock hop zombie... i'm going to take a vinyl 45rpm record and make it look like it's going through my neck. going to be a good one this year! \m/
What would you do with a harley heritage to make it special:
let your mind blow
That's a good question. Hitchcock , of course , hosted his own Horror /Mystery show , and Karloff hosted both "Thriller" and the lesser - known "The Veil", but , I would'nt , personally , call either of them Horror Hosts. They were'nt in character as somebody else , becoming celebrities in so doing. Karloff and Hitchcock were , of course , already celebrities , as were Rod Serling and Diana Rigg , for example , by the time they threw their hats in the Horror and Mystery ring. You could say that's a technicality , and that the genre is open to definition...But , to me , personally , a Horror Host should bear some kind of horriffic personna , even if it's one that's deliberately sexy , like Vampira or Elvira....I mean , there might be male Horror Hosts who are considered quite the studmuffins , as well. I don't know. Blood E. Murder made many women in Chicago throw their Romance Novels in the fire , I've been told.
Now! In the UK we have the "Horror Channel" and host Emily Booth. (Shes cool. A hot host).
They have an eclectic mix of British, European, American and World horror.
Was Hitchcock a horror host? Maybe?
When I saw your comment , part of it , I remembered a great photo essay Famous Monsters did on Dr. Paul Bearer. He had huge , almost Marty Feldman - like eyes , one being unmistakably a glass eye , but , he utilized what made him unique , not an object of pity , and created a personna that no one could cop , not unless they wanted to go about it the HARD way. Even if he were'nt at an ocular disadvantage , he still looked different , and kids need that. But.....If he started out in '74 , then , he would have been preceded by Wacky Packages , which started (If my geekass memory serves me right.) , in card form , in 1969 , reappearing a few years later as the stickers that were the prayer cards for us 70's PRE - TEENS. But , he might've been on another station , previously. Ghoulardi also did monster product parodies , sent in by his fans.
Thank you for sharing (I mean it , maaaaan.).
I grew up with DR. PAUL BEARER out of Tampa/ St. Pete, Florida. He was on Saturday afternoons with Creature Feature, a double feature of Universal or schocky horror movies. I remember seen all the Abbot & Costello meet the... flicks. He was the king of fake product placements. Bleeder's Digest. Raisin Brains. Think Wacky Packages before Wacky Packages. He was on the air on WTOG-44 from 1974 until almost the 90s! AND he had a glass eye.
An old friend of mine from Italy, occasionally buy, tune and retail Old-timer.
At the moment he has this really cool Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible to offer:
I would like to buy it myself but i cannot afford to have a car right now!
(Although i had preferred the red and white Buick Special from ´59, he had before!)
I could put some links or connect, if needed.

Sounds good , tho' I'm getting as tired of so -called "Zombie" movies (That have nothing to do with the African/Haitian legend of The Zombie ,tho' "Night of The Living Dead " is a rare modern classic) as I am of "Reality TV" (ONE OF MY FAVORITE OXYMORONS.)....But it's going to take until the "Zombie Apocalypse" for me to watch the Comic Strip Presents set and "Carry On " box I scored on the cheap at Reckless....
"Dead Set", Charlie Brooker's brilliant satire of reality TV "stars" caught in a Zombie Apocalypse, made for the UK's Channel 4 a couple of years ago, is now available to view on demand from the Channels 4oD streaming page.....if you like Zombie Movies at all....or even if you just hate reality TV......and you've never seen this show........
Enjoy!!
There is an episode of The Twilight Zone called "What You Need".(1959)
There are scenes in this that so inspired the movies and Brandos character.
maybe the book also?
98 stories here about time-travel, overpopulation, media saturation and so on going back to 1956. Very prophetic and influential. This is the best collection of short stories I have ever read. The Complete Short Stories of Ambrose Bierce is a close second for what that's worth.
I was wondering if anyone has any other Ballard titles to recommend or any other Ballardian authors to suggest (if such a thing is possible). The word genius is bantered about a lot but I think here it fits. It is possible that Ballard was indeed more influential than popular so I'd like to know who his literary spawn were if anyone knows. Perhaps he is the literary equivalent of the Velvet Underground. Thanks in advance for any information.
