    • Archie Comics recently published a four part series in which the gang from Riverdale meets the bastard degenerate sons of glam rock, KISS.  I just bought the collector's edition, and it is a blast to read.  In a way, it's very fitting that the Archies would meet KISS, since KISS was almost as much of a bubblegum band as the Archies:)  BTW, here is a little preview of the second issue, and as you can see, Sabrina the Teenage Witch also stars in this series.

    • "Daddy's Deadly Darling , that IS funny....I remember , some line in "C.H.U.D."
when a woman is screaming about a monster in her apartment . A neighbor yells "WHY DON'T YA CALL GHOSTBUSTERS ?!!".

"Ghostbustersmania" was still in full swing , and Dan Akyroyd , if you can believe it , was still funny. His time was running out.

I'm pretty sure she's supposed to be a teenager. Her age is never actually mentioned but she's an inmate with the rest of them so I guess she must be. I saw C.H.U.D. when it came out on video and remember being disappointed that it wasn't a total gorefest or something (happened a lot when I was a kid), watching it again for the first time in 20 years it stands up pretty well. Never heard of Pigs but I just looked it up, I think I prefer the alternative title Daddy's Deadly Darling. Either way I need to see it.

Was Wendy O. really supposed to be a teenager? I know most of the other women were SUPPOSED TO be teens....I took a date to see "C.H.U.D." when it came out. We were both kind of bummed that it was'nt worse than it was ! I like Humanoids From The Deep a lot , tho'.  I'll watch out for "Razorback" ....Ever seen "Pigs"?.

    • "Scarface" (Yes , with Al Pacino. The one that launched a million cheesy shirts , not the one where Karloff gets offed in a bowling alley.)....I'd just never seen it. I was'nt aware it was about the Cuban refugee and exiled criminal situation in the early 80's. It was'nt real big on plot , but , I enjoyed it....Pacino , almost unrecognizable , did put in a strong performance.

Beavis and Butthead - The New episodes. The BEST episodes...

Mary Tyler Moore Show - First Season.   Just a great show.

Grumpier Old Men - The better of the two , I think. It's sweet , but , hilarious.Plus , Sophia Loren , as well as Ann - Margret co - stars....Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau still bring the laffs (MORON! PUTZ!), and Burgess Meredith is outstanding in what had to be his last , or one of his last , performances , as the dirty old man with a plan !

      •        Mash it all up till it's the consistency of pancake batter.
      •        Pour into pre-made pie crusts (should be enough for two pies).

    • Please allow me to plug my Philip K Dick Podcast here. Thanks.

Future Noir is a great read. I spent years looking for the cigarettes Rachel smokes in the film. That said, Divine Invasions is great. I do recommend tracking down any of the Collected Letters Collections. They are a trip as most of them were collected at the height of Dick's drug phase and are ramblings on Washing machines and Nixon.

    • Holy Cow. I have always wondered why people in the public eye will do such crazy things when they know everyone is watching. That guy needs a mental professional...maybe he has Cat Scratch Fever?

I am constantly amazed that people put so much stock into what a celebrity says/does/promotes in regards to politics, we should be asking "Why should we care what they think, do they have a degree in political science?"

Nugent: "I Will Stand By" Inflammatory Attack On Obama Administration

National Rifle Association board member and Washington Times columnist Ted Nugent refused to back down from his recent inflammatory comments about the Obama administration in a radio interview with CNN contributor Dana Loesch on The Dana Show. Nugent told Loesch that "I will stand by my speech" and said that he was being attacked with the "Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals playbook."

Speaking at the NRA's annual meeting Nugent accused President Obama of having a "vile, evil America-hating administration" that is "wiping its ass with the Constitution." He went on to tell a crowd that "We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November" and said that "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year." The Secret Service is reportedly reviewing Nugent's comments.

Nugent insisted to Loesch that his message had been "100 percent positive," and Loesch agreed that he was being used as a "scapegoat" by the Obama administration.

Later in the interview, Nugent added more derogatory comments about Democrats. He described Democratic chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz as a "brain-dead, soulless, heartless idiot," and said House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi was a "sub-human scoundrel."

Asked about a request from the Democrats that Mitt Romney (who sought and received Nugent's endorsement) distance himself from Nugent's comments, Nugent claimed that "Mitt Romney knows what I'm saying is true. He puts it into words for him, I put it into words for me."

These aren't the first inflammatory remarks from Nugent.

      • Nugent said Obama was "a piece of shit" who should "suck on my machine gun."
      • Nugent said the Muslim community is "rude and stupid."
      • Nugent described Hillary Clinton as a "toxic cunt" and a "two-bit whore for Fidel Castro."
      • Nugent said anyone who says "gun control" should be put in jail.
      • Nugent described the Democratic Party as a "modern-day slave master" to the poor and unemployed.

Tom Waits has been sober for fifteen years now. He told the Guardian about it in 2006, saying:
tom Waits at a picnic table"Oh, you know, it was tough. I went to AA. I'm in the program. I'm clean and sober. Hooray. But, it was a struggle."
      Does he miss it?
"Nah. Not the way I was drinking. No, I'm happy to be sober. Happy to be alive. I found myself in some places I can't believe I made it out of alive."
Has sobriety affected his creative process?
"No. I don't think so. I mean, one is never completely certain when you drink and do drugs whether the spirits that are moving through you are the spirits from the bottle or your own. And, at a certain point, you become afraid of the answer. That's one of the biggest things that keeps people from getting sober, they're afraid to find out that it was the liquor talking all along.
"I was trying to prove something to myself, too. It was like, 'Am I genuinely eccentric? Or am I just wearing a funny hat? What am I made of? What's left when you drain the pool?'"
NPR Fresh Air's Terry Gross asked him about this last comment in 2011.
Waits in the studioWAITS: You know, maybe the drugs and alcohol are more of a vacation from reality, you know? Yeah, am I just wearing a funny hat? Am I just trying to say weird stuff, or am I really peculiar, genuinely?
GROSS: Did you want to be peculiar?
WAITS: Well, I wanted - I've always wanted to be curious and provocative, I guess, and interesting, and interested in this kind of sparkling, you know, sapphire we all call home, you know. I always wanted to be mystified by it all - and rather fascinated with life itself. I think maybe when you drink, you're probably robbing yourself of that genuine experience, even though it appears what you're doing is getting more of it. You're getting less of it. And it takes a while, when you've had a rock on the hose like that for so long. It takes a while for the hose to be a hose again, you know, and for things to start flowing.

    • Dashi (Japanese fish-stock)

      Ingredients

      2 (4-inch) square pieces kombu
      2 1/2 quarts water
1/2-ounce bonito flakes or katsuobushi, about 2 cups

      Directions

Put the kombu in a 4-quart saucepan, cover with the water and soak for 30 minutes.

Set the saucepan over medium heat until the water reaches 150 to 160 degrees F and small bubbles appear around the sides of the pan, 9 to 10 minutes.

Remove the kombu from the pan. Increase the heat to high and bring to a boil, 5 to 6 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and add the bonito flakes. Simmer gently, stirring frequently, for 10 minutes.

Strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer lined with muslin or several layers of cheesecloth. Reserve the bonito flakes for another use.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use within 1 week or freeze for up to a month.
