There seems to be an underlying stream here that garage music should be confined solely to the 60's and 70's. the obvious golden age. Like all music from pop to punk it follows a formula and as the Village People say... 'You Can't Stop the Music' I feel the fact that some bands are shit then good then shit again is only to be human. How can old guys and grrrrls still feel the anger (apart from GG Allin) that they felt in their teens. Not possible. Life and experience take over. Thats wot makes the punk scene great. Like nature it adapts and we quite rightly should feel like the old farts at the gig as the kids who are affected by the Ty Segals, Jay Reatards, Thee Oh Sees, Kurt Viles of the world  et al, express themselves and speak the same teenage bollox and shit that we did 20, 40, 60 years ago. Come on. The Chesterfield Kings haven't been relevant for years. The Sonics should keep their slippers on, and the angry young Them, now open supermarkets and gala's. Everything in its place and everything of its time. I'm not the same furious 18 year old i was 25 years ago.... THANK FUCK!!! haha

i have built a couple kits with verying degrees of success. some dissapointments maybe due to the kits not being that great component quality and some due to builder error.

the kits from BYOC look pretty nice, especially the Tone Bender and Fuzz Face kits with the premium trannies but the kits are almost at the pricepoint of a good finished pedal from a reputable builder.

if you have the time for tweeking around it is a lot of fun and rewarding.

i have a hard enough time sifting through all of the varieties finding the perfect fuzztone i like, let alone building it.

Has anyone built a fuzz from a kit. Id like to make one but want to make a good one. Any suggestions out there?

So digging Electric Wizard right now, Particularly the Dopethrone and Black Masses LPs. But hell, they are pretty much killer throughout. Black Sabbath always, and I once saw the Melvins do a live instrumental set in an arthouse cinema over a film about Krampusnacht. My ears were ringing for days, so epic.

I have tried one test release of mine through Bandcamp, and I really like that fans can have a FLAC for best sound quality. I still shake my head that so many people will settle for a crappy MP3 when they have a choice! ;)

But sill, a nice limited vinyl 45 beats everything, doesn't it? ;)

2. The Regulators...Sherry Share It...recorded live at The Polish Hall, London Ontario 11/2/79. Early London Ontario punk combo heavily influenced by The Velvet Underground.

Hey James, I came up in the international anarcho punk scene where the swastika & iron cross were forbidden, but as i grew up & got a better sense of what i wanted out of life, I really started getting into the more freeing & liberatory elements of Punk & anything, which includes the right to offend & upset! Also, they're just part of American juvenile delinquent culture which all erupted after WWII. Blue jeans, iron crosses, leather jackets, boots, striped shirts, long hair, Black culture, etc. Love it. Surfs up! The history & cross-generational elements are really important for what we're doing here.

But if its for home recording and not live playing live I recommend just overdubbing the tambourine separate cuz sometimes I want tambourine on off beat instead, plus with the BBQ method the tamb can tend to get slightly off n really muck up your rhythm and since it is so high frequency it will be super obvious. Hey, mark sultan overdubs so I don't feel it breaks any rules. For an example of a tambourine being off the ENTIRE song check out kk @ BBQ's "love you so" from the s/t release. Awesome track but goddamn is that tambourine on its own rhythm!
