NICE!
http://www.avclub.com/article/where-start-primal-sound-garage-rock-216756
Onion AV Club, apparently inspired by the Sonics, has published a "Where to start" for Garage Rock -- going back to the SOnics and Standells and all the way up to The Black Lips, Thee Oh Sees and a lot of cool bands from the decades in between.
It's pretty basic and most of us probably already know most the stuff here. And there are a couple of factual errors. (The Standells' home town wasn't really Boston)
But it's pretty cool. And if just one new fan finds The Gories or The Crams from this, it's all worth it,
Right on.
No worries, John. Records will be on their way to you soon!
Simon , I admit , I overreacted , and I apologize for that. The first time I tried to order the album , I was not able to access the information by enterring the US as country for delivery . I don't know what happened , but , I should not have taken this as an indication that your label wasn't talking orders from The US. I spoke out of turn , but I was not trying to start any rumors against Ugly Pop Records.
I tried a second time , and it looks like the order went through , fine , though there did'nt seem to be any way to make a print copy of a receipt . As long as the order went through , that's fine.
Again , I meant no slur on your professional reputation , and I hope to order from you again in the near future. John Battles.

TYLER , IF YOU DON'T MIND ME ASKING , WHERE DID YOU FIND THE REAL KIDS' ALBUM ? I CONTACTED THE LABEL , AND THEY SAID THEY WERE'NT TAKING U.S. ORDERS. ZIMBABWE , BELARUS ,MICRONESIA , YOU NAME IT , BUT NOT THE U.S. ONE STORE IN CHICAGO WAS TRYING TO ORDER IT , TO NO AVAIL .
Have a good week , everyone. John.
Simon from Ugly Pop here. I have no idea whatsoever what this is supposed to mean. Most of our business is to the US and there is absolutely no reason that I would tell anyone that I wasn't taking American orders. Simple as that. Same goes with the 'Chicago store". Would be very curious to see this alleged communication.

thanks , Tyler....The US LABEL , Ace of Hearts , which Kopper referred me to , seems the way to go.......at least , for me.
MIGHT i RECOMMEND tHE Velvet Illusion reissue LP? Northwest naive , but gutsy sounding ,Psych /Garage , with swirling organ and occasional outbreaks of insane fuzz guitar and bass....Their singer , Steve Weed , was widely believed to be the same Steve Weed who was Patti Hearst's Boyfriend , at the time of her abduction by The SLA .TURNS OUT , IT WAS ANOTHER STEVE WEED. Despite the name , he took an unfashionable anti - drug stance. GOOD RECORD , COOL PUNK ROCK SILKSCREEN GRAPHICS.
ALSO ,LIGHT IN the Attics' Roky Erickson reissues , of his first , indispensible , "Five Symbols" aka "TEO" , better known as"Roky Erickson and The Aliens", AND HIS TWO 80's releases on Pink Dust "Don't Slander Me" (An outstanding studio effort , featuring members of SVT , Flamin' Groovies , Jefferson Airplane , and The Aliens.), and "Gremlins Have Pictures", an extraordinarily varied collection of the man's work ca. 1975 - 80. It's probably best known for the use of "I am" IN THE MOVIE , "DRUGSTORE COWBOY"and a totally unrehearsed live version of The Velvets' "Heroin" with The Explosives. "Boys , we're gonna do Heroin tonight...." HUH ?!! "i think it's in "E''.

The LP was released on Ugly Pop (Canada). Not sure why they weren't taking US orders though. That seems weird
Ugly Pop also just re-released Teengenerate - Live At Shelter. They put out a lot of killer Canada punk reissues too, and there's more coming this year.

OK , thanks. I dunno why the Canadian company was being so obstinate. I mean , we're still friends , right?
the Real Kids can't fail. I saw them with a pickup drummer they'd met that day , and they were STILL great! !
John, did you check with Ace of Hearts? They licensed the LP to Ugly Pop in Toronto. Both the CD and LP are available from Ace of Hearts, too. Details on the Ace of Hearts Records website: www.aceofheartsrecords.com

Check out my blog post on Pow Wows newest album Broken Curses here: http://revrock.blogspot.ca/2015/03/pow-wows-broken-curses-interview-show.html
As far as I understand a lot of the distortion in garage rock comes from overdrive distortion from tube amplifiers (or tube pre-amps). Buying tube amplifiers and abusing them might be out of your price range but there's pedals and stuff that mimics the effect.
