    • Oh yeah, this is getting a dvd release. I think it's coming out this week actually. All those Banger films productions come out on DVD. I don't have any info on it yet, but I will report back here when I do.

Oh yeah, a bit of info I guess: I think there is suppose to be a collector's edition that comes with a book, dvd, and maybe something else, I forget. I have no idea how available these will be or how much they will cost. I'll try and find out the info this weekend.

    • Yeah , I think he is , too. When I saw him do a signing at Tower , he stopped and talked to all the children that were there , he was beaming. Which  is really cool. He even asked a little boy , "Do you like Teletubbies?". It was adorable.

Still , I really enjoyed seeing all the surviving ACG members in the "Behind The Music " program , as well as the surviving ex - Stooges , pre - reformation(s).

Well , you can't have everything. Maybe it's better , that way. But , i'M SURE ANXIOUS TO SEE IT , EVEN IF , like the new Thunders movie , it probably won't get a DVD release......

    • Not sure if the Filth and the Furry was an inspiration for not showing the faces, good question or guess I should say. I know the director told me that EVERY documentary has talking heads and they wanted to do something different, make it more theatrical, like live Alice performances.

As far as only getting Dunaway to appear (audio appearance), I think that was the only their option. Getting everybody on board is about like trying to reunite the band and I think when you're dealing with somebody of Alice Cooper's stature, ultimately he is going to be calling the shots.

The Toronto screening, Alice came in and watched the film with us and he and the film crew did a Q&A at the end. From what I gathered—now that he is 100% sober/clean, I feel he almost wants people to know of his addiction problems, maybe as a warning to others type of story or whatever…. I got the chance to meet him twice throughout this process. He seems like a genuinely friendly and caring guy.

    •    ALSO ,  Alice and Michael HAD A BEEF FOR SOME TIME. THEY DID MAKE PEACE , AND PLAY SOME REUNION GIGS AND GO INTO THE STUDIO AGAIN , but , maybe they're on the outs again(?) , and one party refused to be associated with teh other. Just speculating......

    • I MEANT , Alice does'nt PLAY Chicago , THOUGH I HOPE HE WILL, some day. WE CAN'T ALL GET OUT TO SUBURBS WE'VE SCARCELY HEARD OF. Last time he played here was at Navy Pier Bandshell , probably 10 or 12 years ago.......HE KILLED IT , BUT THE COMPARATIVELY SMALL VENUE WAS'NT EVEN FULL.

    • The Pygmies,

ALICE DID'NT GO PUBLIC WITH HIS DRUG HABIT , BUT THERE'S ENOUGH FOOTAGE FROM THE "SPECIAL FORCES" DAYS , HIS FACE LOOKS RAVAGED BY SPEED.  excuse the large caps....

He did deny his having had problems with crack cocaine and other drugs for a long time , but , he went  into detail about it in his "Behind The Music"segment , which had to be at least 15 years ago(?). It was a carefully guarded secret , but , then again , so was Alice , by the early 80's. The surviving members of The Alice Cooper Group were all shown on that program , and , with the exception of Bruce , they looked great , and still do. It sounds like the director was motivated by The Sex Pistols' film , "The Filth and The Fury" to not showthe interviewees' faces. I'll take your word for it that it's a good move , though I'd liek to see them.

OKAY ! ANYONE IN CHICAGO - "SUPER DUPER ALICE COOPER" IS BEING SHOWN AT DELILAH'S , 2771 N. LINCOLN (But , if you're reading this , and live in CHICAGO , YOU KNOW WHERE DELILAH'S IS.), Next Tuesday , 7:00.     It may be our only chance to see this film in a rust bucket ghost town like this. It should have already played here , in a real theater , but , we may have to settle for TV monitors. I've heard nothing about a DVD release , either....... Alice does'nt lay Chicago , anymore , maybe his movie will play in the suburbs.

    • I'd only recently (like a few years ago) gotten into the Groundhogs. Split was my first introduction and remains my favourite album, though it's their fourth album. Thank Christ For the Bomb is a close tie. But these kinds of bands (in my opinion) Pink Ferries, Hawkwind, Ground Hogs, Capt Beyond, Blue Cheer...etc are almost more rock than psych, albeit heavy stoner rock with some fuzzed out psych drenched sounds. It's a perfect storm for me. Elements of 60s garage and psych, forbearers of metal, punk attitudes...stepping stones to Motorhead.

Think I may be trailing a bit off topic...sorry.

Never thought of Going Blind as a psych song, though my dad was playing it for me when I was 5, long before I had any concept of psych....besides these crazy records they played while smoking their funny smelling cigarettes. Interesting to think of the song in that light. Melvins did an amazing cover of Going Blind.

What about some bubblegum psych? A lot of those groups (or the few people writing songs for a lot of those groups) had some psych songs - Professor Lollipop single Angela, flip it over and the B side is the song backward, pretty groovy! Lemon Pipers - Jelly Jungle of Orange Marmalade is a pretty tripped out song. Of course Tommy James hit Crimson and Clover was a pretty heavy psych song.

I think most bands in that era all tried their hand in psych for a bit. Standells - Medication, the Who - Amenia City In the Sky, Hollies, Paul Revere, of course the Stones and Beatles, Beach Boys...etc. A lot of these garage bands weren't full on psych bands, but produced some killer psych tunes.

    • Yeah , Pink Fairies and Hawkwind are both considered the next wave of Psych , in the early 70's. Tho' both bands had a Hard Rock bent , too.....So , in that regard , they ARE comparable to Captain Beyond.

Armageddon , with Keith Relf and Bobby Caldwell from Captain Beyond had similar starnge changes in their songs , that are like Captain Beyong , because of Caldwell's drumming. Still , they were even more on the Hard Rock tip....Apparently , they only did one gig , or a string of gigs , in LA.

Cold Sun (Bill Miller , later with Roky Erickson and The ALIENS) , sIMPLY sAUCER , The Ya Ho Wa 13 recordings , and others epitomized early to mid - 70's Psych. Even Blue Oyster Cult's first Lp.

I don't think most people consider The Sabs Psychedelic , but , there's songs like "Planet Caravan" that definitely are.

Hit songs like "Jump Into The Fire" by Nilsson , "Go Back" by Crabby Appleton , "Draggin' The Line" by Tommy James , fit the bill.

I'm no KISS fan , but , "Goin' Blind" , yep. Their version of The Stones' "2000 Man sounds more Glam than Psych to me."

Then there's Johnny Hallyday's early 70's ''Angry Psych ' period. Sounds like a precursor to The Stranglers , with Mick Jones (Yes , later in Foreigner.) on somevery MC5ish leads.

The Groundhogs , too , sound plenty Psychedelic to me.

So many things , at that time , were neither fish nor fowl. Now , it's so cut and dried.

    • June 1, 2014 4:15 PM CDT
    • Pink Farries/ Hawkwind camp have tons of good psych/ stoner rock stuff that are both great and seem to be in a different mood than the flower power stuff, which is also obviously great. A bit closer to Captain Beyond, I’d say.

I've been listening to Syd Barrett solo stuff this past week, which I guess is a bit of an obvious one in the psych world. I just happen to have been revisiting the albums the past little while.

Presidents of the United States is one of my all time favourite psych albums. There is no guitar in that album, which I don’t think I even noticed upon first hearing this band. Sometimes I feel this record is trying too hard to be trippy, but not so much that it comes off as corny. Overall it’s pretty amazing.

Kim Fowley has a spattering of cool psych songs throughout his catalog.

I don’t know if Black Sabbath can be considered psych, but in my days of eating lots of acid and other psychedelics, they probably got more time on the turntable than any other group I can think of.

Outside of stuff already mentioned, another big hitter is the first Chocolate Watchband album, No Way Out. This has been on my record want list forever. I think I should just buy a reissue to hold me over.

    • The Pygmies ,    It's funny , everyone I talk to about Status Quo says they don't like the Psychedelic Pop era , only the Boogie stuff. I started out just listening to the earlier material , and , then , I was lucky enough to see QUO DOING AN EXTREMELY RARE US appearance to just several hundred people.

THEY WERE ON FIRE !!!!! After that , I started checking out their later stuff , which I'd heard in passing , but never owned.  People asked me if they did "Matchstick Men", I TOLD 'EM , "nO , BUT THE RINGING IN MY EARS AFTER THE SHOW SOUNDED EXACTLY LIKE "PICTURES OF MATCHSTICK MEN" !

    • June 1, 2014 2:30 AM CDT
    • Captain Beyond is the ever - lovin' SHIT ! Possibly the last bastion of true Psych ( Before the Psych revival , that is.). So much talent , and at least two of 'em now dead , and Rod Evans basically barred from performing , or too bitter to have another go at it , after his phony Deep Purple stunt in 1980 (There's a great website about the Fake Purple US  tour.). There was a revamped version , with Bobby Caldwell, Rhino , and , sometimes , Lee Dorman (When he had time off from Iron Buterfly). I SAW SOME VIDEO ON YOU TUBE. wAS'NT CRAZY ABOUT THe SINGER. Sounded correct , otherwise. I  THINK THEY ONLY PLAYED IN EUROPE AND JAPAN.  I think ALL of their albums were good , tho' most people would disagree.

    • I never heard any pedophila accusations either.

Many years ago, his widow, Miss Sue posted a lengthy piece on her website talking about tiny's sexuality. If I'm remembering correctly, he admitted that when he was young he had some homosexual experience -- or maybe it was only desires -- of which he was deeply ashamed. The homophobia apparently was a result of that shame.

Also, his relationship with Miss Sue was pretty much platonic.

By the way, this discussion inspired me to conclude my latest podcast with a Tiny Tim/Brave Combo classic

    • .....i meant , Tiny Tim said younger men were inconsiderate TOWARD WOMEN. For all his flirtations with sexual ambiguity , Tiny Tim seemed homophobic , or , to be fair , like he had to keep reminding people he was straight.

    • May 31, 2014 3:41 PM CDT
    • His best friend, huh? Hmmmmm....Surely the accusation was posthumous. How many people were even on the internet when Tiny Tim died , I'm too lazy to look it up , now , but , it must have been over 20 years ago?  Sounds like he just thought it'd be easier to piss on his grave than to say anything , right or wrong , against Tiny Tim , while he was living.  PRETTY LAME , especially if he had nothing to support it.......Tiny Tim was a freak , as we all know. I read a rare interview where he DID talk about his sex life , saying younger men are inconsiderate , because they could'nt go for 4 or 5 hours , like he claimed HE could. The rest , I'll spare you good people. Nothin outwardly offensive or illegal , just FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • John Battles said:

.....I've never heard of him being accused of pedophelia (We don't spell it with an "a'' here in the states , tho' I say "Faeces Book "instead of "Face Book" , anyway .) ,,,,,That does'nt mean no one ever made such an allegation , it's just the first I've heard of it.....

It wasn't big time stuff (the news was on his best friend's and assistant's blog (Erin something?....don't remember the blog website though:( some years ago too)...I mean, it wasn't news like Gary Glitter and Jacko stuff.....but TT was WRONGLY accused...that's for sure.
