1. Evil Farm Children....Hangover....from the Evilling CD from 2008. This was going to be the opener for our post New Years show on Jan 2nd, which didn't happen due to complications.

2. Hurricane and Able....Who's That Girl....from The Last Temptation download. Hurricane and Able make their live debut Saturday at Wrongbar in Toronto. It's a half London/Toronto combo who will hopefully bring the show to London if all goes well at this debut show.

3. Dynamite Pussy Club...Nutbush City Limits....recent demo this UK combo sent us. They also did a Radio WW Session just over a year ago and have our seal of approval.

4. Los Readymade...Cat Blue...from the Automar CD. Brand new from this Argentinian combo who are on the Garagepunk Hideout.

5. Drug Dealerz....Mayor Ford....demo from this Toronto combo who are also on the Garagepunk Hideout.

6. Dave Campbell...The Time Is Now...from Finding The Real CD. Brand new London artist, who recorded this CD by himself at home. This particular song blew me away when i first heard it. Picked this up at Grooves Records here in London, it was a freebie with the fliers up at the front of the store. This was the world radio premier for this CD.

7. Faces....Pool Hall Richard....from their Greatest Hits CD. This kinda reminds me of Dave Campbell, the track prior.

8. Jim Jones Revue...Elemental.....from the Burning Your House Down CD. UK combo who will be at Call The Office next thursday as their first Canadian date on this tour. This is a show you don't want to miss!!

9. The Everly Brothers...Rip It Up....from the LP of the same name on Ace Records. This set goes out to Phil Everly who passed away the other day.

10. The Everly Brothers...Poor Jenny...from the All They Had To Do Was Dream LP on Rhino. This demo track has some Phil and Don audio interaction prior to the start of the track.

11. The Everly Brothers....Problems....from the Rip It Up LP. All 3 songs together tell a nice 50's teenage story.

12. The Mogs....Run Like Hell....from the about to be released CD from this Hamilton based 3 piece. There's a London Ontario connection here, with singer/guitarist/sometime bassist Rob Munro, who was in London combos Frankenstein 5, The Mood and Scratching Post. The official release party is Jan 25th at Doors Pub in Hamilton Ontario. And this release is going to be on What Wave Records!

18.Andy Shernoff and Gord Lewis....Master Race Rock....recorded live at Call The Office 6/11/2010. This is The Dictators song played acoustic by the writer and Gord Lewis, Teenage Head's guitar hero. Andy mentioned that this was the smallest crowd he had ever played to! Makes me proud to live in this sleepy city!!

19. Agnelli and Rave...Company Man...from the Rave On CD, a tribute to The Reducers.

20. Boy From Nowhere....Heart Of The City....recorded live at The Town and Country Tavern, 10/5/2013. The Hippies reunion was also that night.

21. The Hypnotics....Soul At Seven...from the CD of the same name. This one features David Konstantino, who hosts a radio show called Revolution Rock on CJAM, Tuesdays 10:30 AM to noon outta Windsor Ontario.A really cool show in a similar vein to this. And we stole Allison Brown from CJAM and brought her back to CHRW to be our new program director.

GOOD CLIP. Rough Francis was featured in the documentary.....I knew of Death many years ago , because they were comped somewhere (I wanted to say KBD , but , I think that's wrong) , and written up on the Black Punk Time Page , which I've contributed to. But , I would'nt have guessed there was a whole (short) album of material. I missed them the first time they played in Chicago. CONFIDENTIALLY ,I HEARD IT WAS ONLY OCCASIONALLY GREAT , as the HACKNEYS WERE STILL GETTING OUT OF THE PROCESS OF BEING STRICTLY A REGGAE BAND. I'm sure this was'nt so , when they played on NYE. BUT , ROKY ERICKSON WAS ALSO PLAYING , AND , WITH NO CRAMPS , ANYMORE , ROKY TAKES #1 PRIORITY WITH ME (THEY SHARED THE #1 SPOT , PREVIOUSLY.)

Has no one , including me, mentioned that "Garbageman" is widely believed to be lifted from , or at least , inspired by "Boss" by The Rumblers ?

The "Smell of Female" show (Which incorrectly listed Kid Congo on second guitar , I guess , as a means of severence pay. Nick's Cousin , Mike Metoff , from The Pagans (Better known as Ike Knox at the time) replaced Kid for a short time , then was replaced by Click Mort for about a month (He turned up later in The Loafin' Hyenas with T. Tex Edwards of The Nervbreakers and Rob Ritter of Gun Club. Their record is recommended IF you can find it.)>

 SOURCES SAY THAT IT WAS METOFF ON GUITAR , THAT'S HIM IN THE PROMO VIDEO. . The gig was attended by two of my friends. One was only 13 at the time , her sister acted as guardian , and , well , that was her baptism by fire. THE OTHER GOT THERE BEFORE DOORS OPENED , SO HE WENT DOWN THE STREET TO A ROLLER RINK "WHERE THIS WOMAN CALLED "MADONNA" WAS SINGING , KARAOKE STYLE TO TAPED BACKING TRACKS. IT WAS AWFUL !! I WANTED TO BE WATCHING THE CRAMPS !!!" Which , of course , he did , after they opened the doors. I went to The Peppermint Lounge a year later. It looked really cool , just like on the back of that Cramps EP , BUT , IT WAS JUST THE OPPOSITE , THEY drove me out with Rap music , and ,  i ENDED UP AT dANCETERIA ,WHERE AT LEAST , THAT NIGHT , I COULD LISTEN TO PUNK ROCK , AND SEE THE "GARBAGEMAN" VIDEO FOR THE FIRST TIME......

btw , nICK kNOX HAS BROKEN AN ALMOST 25 YEAR SILENCE BARRIER TO PLAY DRUMS ON A NEW CD BY CHEEZE BORGER AND TEH CLEVELAND STEAMERS (Get it?). He's on 3 or 4 songs. MikE HUDSON FROM tHE Pagans and John Morton from the electric eels ALSO TURN UP . iT'S A GOOD , MINIMALIST ROCK/PUNK effort that'll probably appeal to fans of teh first two Cramps LPs.

i HAVE A friend who used to work for The Cramps. He told me "Exotica" (sic. Sorry, I like "Fiends of Dope ISLAND" , but , don't play it often.)or"Taboo', is that it? ,my friend gave me a rundown of some of the songs , before the record was released. He said "Taboo" was an out and out remake of Rumble , with lyrics. I did'nt but that , once I heard it....Besides , I'm sure that's been done several times (The Suicide Twins "Coming Down Slow" , for one.). Anyway , Taboo was a cover , right? It's embarrassing , I know, but , when Lux died , I did'nt listen to their later stuff , much.

Of course , as covers go , they also did "Hang Up" by The Wailers on that LP , too.....

THERE'S a video from San Fran Oct. 31 , late 90's or early oughts , of The Cramps doing "You're Gonna Miss Me". I know Lux was a huge Elevators fan , it's too bad , it seems , they never did the song in the studio....nor that barely any versions of "Hungry" by Paul Revere and The Raiders seem to have turned up . I THINK i HEARD ONE VERSION THAT WAS ALMOST UNLISTENABLE.

Sorry if I brought this up , some people think "Saddle Up A bUZZ bUZZ" WAS LIFTED FROM "EVIL HOODOO" BY THE SEEDS. I DON'T BUY I T, THOUGH IT'S SIMILAR. Not any more than I would believe the same of "Misty Mountain Hop" , and , in spite of his own music , Robert Plant has great taste in music. I f you'd have put he and Lux in a room togethe r, they would have had much to talk about , outside of their own music.

......WOW , Tiny Tim and Wayne Newton? No disrespect , but that sounds like an address on a Chinese Kibbutz - 2 Katz Fukien .

sTILL ,, COULD HAVE BEEN HISTORICAL. Who knows if someone wa being pranked or not? Maybe he tried to get on stage , and they did'nt believe he was who he was (I know , could there have been any mistaking?) . Ken Goodman's a cool guy. I remember , once we met BLOWFLY BACKSTAGE , AND WE JUST WANTED TO SAY HI , AND LET HIM REST UP BEFORE HIS SHOW. bUT HE SAID "nO , IT'S ok , stay a while fellas , and I'll tell you the story of Blowfly !". 20 minutes later , Ken and i LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND SAID , "mAN ! i FEEL LIKE I'VE ALREADY SEEN THE SHOW !".

i WAS GOING TO MENTION PRAVDA RECORDS , BUT , I COULD'NT REMEMBER IF KEN OWNED IT OR WAS ONE OF THE HIGHER - UPS. PRAVDA HAD THEIR OWN RECORD STORE NEXT TO THE METRO , ONCE THEE HAPPENING VENUE IN CHICAGO. IT WAS A GOOD STORE , BUT , IT WENT THRU SEVERAL NAME AND OWNERSHIP CHANGES. KEN WAS IN THE SERVICE , OF COURSE , THE NEW DUNCAN IMPERIALS , AND A GREAT ONE - SHOT NOVELTY BAND RIGHT BEFORE THEM. NOW , HE'S IN THE GOLD STARS , BACKING ANDRE WILLIAMS , AND HE WAS IN THE GREASY WHEELS , ALSO BACKING ANDRE.    BUT , THE BAND ON THAT BUGHOUSE CD WAS THE ALTAMONT COWBOYS - KLAUS FLOURIDE (DKs) , JAY ROSEN (SPEEDFREAK RAB/C&W GUITARIST.....He did'nt tell me what bands he's been in) , The Drummer (Whose name I forget.) told me he was briefly in The Cramps , on an as needed basis , bu t, never made a member . I THINK THE LEDGE STILL PLAYS JUST ONE SHOW A YEAR , WHEN HE FEELS LIKE IT.

I SAID , IN A REVIEW , HE WAS LUBBOCK'S #2 SON, SECOND ONLY TO BUDDY HOLLY. HE SAID "ME? WHAT ABOUT JOE ELY ?" I SAID "NOPE !".

I got to see him live in Austin around this time. Crazy crazy fun!

I met Tiny Tim in the early 80s at a Wayne Newton concert in Albuquerque. This is true. I was freelancing for this little paper there and was covering the Wayne show, which was at the University of New Mexico basketball arena. I ran into this campus cop I knew and we were yacking when he looked up and said, "That's the weirdest-looking son of a bitch I've ever seen." Sure enough, it was Tiny, with a purple tint in his hair.

I approached him, told him I was a reporter and started inteviewing him. He was in town because he was singing at some car show. And of course, he was a huge Wayne Newton fan. I'd always assumed that Tiny's strange demeanor was just part of the act, but talking to him, I began to realize there was just something off about him. He seemed bitter about his fall from the limelight ("Johnny Carson quit returning my phone calls," he complained) He told me about his latest single, which was a love song to British actress Koo Stark, who'd recently been in some kind of scandal with some royal family member. But he said he knew he'd never really make a comeback until they legalized gambling in Florida. I didn't quite follow his logic then, but now ai realize he was predicting the rise of the casino circuit, which has been a blessing for many a washed-up pop star.

As it turned out, Tiny and the woman he was with were sitting a few rows in front of me during the show. Somebody came up and said something to Tiny, who got up and started walking toward the stage. Oh my God, I thought, Tiny's going to do a song with Wayne Newton! So I got up and tried to follow him. When I finally made it to the gate to the backstage area I had lost him in the crowd. I asked the security guy if he had seen Tiny Tim. "That's who he was?" the guy said. "Yeah, he was here a couple of minutes ago saying that someone had told him Wayne wanted him on stage. But nobody told me about that. I couldn't let him in."

Either it was a cruel set-up to humiliate Tiny or that security guard stopped the duet of the century.

I have that Bughouse album with The New Duncan Imperials as his backup band. I was talking to the guy at Pravda Records who's sent it to me and he said Tiny would "go play anywhere for $500." When I released my own album on CD in '96 and was planning my CD release party I actually thought of bringing in Tiny to play. But sure enough, he died just afew days later. Another great duet that never happened. 

Retraction : I was not at The Legendary Stardust Cowboy's Lounge Ax show (Recorded for the Bughouse CD.) , COME TO THINK OF IT. i SAW HIM THE NEXT THREE TIMES HE PLAYED IN CHICAGO (opened for two of 'em.) , and once in New Orleans.....I HEARD D'ARCY from The Deathly Dull Pumpkins was there. A friend of mine dated her Sister at the time.  HE SAID D'ARCY HAD GOOD TASTE IN MUSIC . MAYBE THAT'S WHY SHE WAS THE FIRST TO LEAVE .

Tiny Tim was definitely bizarre , even to a turned- on , psychedelicized Late 60's youth culture , but , the Hell of it was , he got a LOT more bizarre after fame and fortune had turned it's back on him.......Though Jewish by law (His Mother was Jewish , and his Father , Catholic. Don't know how he was actually raised.) , he talked a lot of Jeezus stuff , centuries before it was cool to. He condemned the youth , the people buying his records , for "Not following Christ's teachings , and giving in to their desires.... when the Wife and I have S-E-X , it is only because we are trying to have children" , which is probably , partly , why his Wife ,  Miss Vicki , of The GTOs , divorced him in such a hurry (They were famously wed on "The Tonight Show".).

I like Tiny Tim , sure. He was'nt like anyone else. His roots were in the Tin Pan Alley music of The 1920's , but , that VOICE !

You loved it or you hated it. I admit , I can't listen to him , that often . His admirers included Screamin' Jay Hawkins and even GG Allin.

Garage Punk fans should at least give "Ever Since You Told Me That You Love Me (I'm a Nut .).". a listen.

After 3 or 4 good - selling albums , several apppearances of "Laugh - In" (Where he was only , possibly , outdone for bizarre music and behavior by The Legendary Stardust Cowboy .) , and , as I recall , a heartfelt commercial jingle for "Dawn" dolls , and a string of well - recieved concert appearances , Tiny Tim went into steadfast decline. He still turned up in the media on a semi - regular basis , well into the late 70's and 80's. The National Enquirer ran an item about a "Hasbeen Tour", featuring the likes of Tiny Tim and John Carradine , among others. It was'nt billed as such , but The Enquirer relished in the sheer sadness of it all.  

Later , Tiny Tim met a man who would prove an unlikely factor in staging a comeback.

"Big Bucks" Burnette , President of The Mr. Ed Fan Club , friend of Jimmy Page (But , more significantly , Jim Dandy , too.), former record store owner on the once - cool Greenville Avenue Strip in Dallas , and , presently , Owner and Curator of The 8 - Track Tape Museum.

Burnette took Tiny Tim under his wing , releasing a 45 of "The Mr. Ed Theme Song" ( Tiny Tim appeared , along with Joe Ely and Allan Young ("Wilbur Post", at  "Edstock", a Burnette - sponsored festival at the legendary Bronco Bowl in Dallas.) and a series of other recordings , his most notorious later track being "Santa Claus Has Got The AIDS This Year".

iN THE '90s , Chicago Musician and Entrepeneur , Ken Goodman  , tried to give Tiny Tim's career yet another boost by releasing what would , sadly , prove to be one of Tiny Tim's last concert performances . The live CD appeared on Goodman's label , Bughouse , as part of a series of Live CDs by "Outsider Artists" , including Hasil Adkins , Cordell Jackson and The Legendary Stardust Cowboy.  I was at the latter three shows , but , not Tiny Tim's gig. A friend had seen him in Dallas the week before , and said he was VERY creepy , even given what we knew about him in later years. Plus , I did'nt know where the Hell the venue was.

I saw Tiny Tim , literally , die on Television , maybe some of you did , too. HE WAS SHOWN SINGING "TIPTOE THROUGH THE TULIPS", at a benefit , before a small audience , and literally dropping to the floor. It looked, at the time , like it might have been a stroke , or only a siezure (But , siezures kill people. Ask John Travolta.), but the cause of death was listed as Cardiac Arrest.  I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY THIS WAS SHOWN ON tv , AFTER HIS DEMISE , BUT , WITH TINY TIM , TRUTH WAS STRANGER THAN FICTION.

I was wondering if any of you guys are fans? I know he is far from the Punk and Rock n Roll genres this site is used too, but his originality and sheer bizarreness definately fits into the whole DIY and  'be yourself' ethics of Punk music.

I find him so original and unlike anyone who came before or after him. Some of his performances really creep me out, especially this one...

Johnny Lurg - AS you know , there were a lot of faux - Asian Novelty songs......Some potentially less offensive that others. Almost the sole province of R'n'B....."Ling Ting Tong" by The Five Keys , arguably the best , does'nt seem particularly offensive. Great Asian instrumentation , but no racial impersonations.

The song , to me , always seemed to be about an Opium den (References to kicking the gong around , ala Cab Calloway.) , admittedly ,a negative stereotype. The ultra catchy chorus "Ling Ting Tong , sing this song - Tai smoke'um boon dai yea , Tai smokeum boo.". It always sounded like a thinly veiled drug reference - "I smoke 'um Buddha ( Opium) and I smoke'um Boo (Pot) !". In fact , that's pretty much how The Human Beings  said it on their criminally uncomped version. Wolfman Jack even did a version , with a spoken intro about "A funky , groovy lookin' cat named Ling Ting Tong.....HE HAD THESE FUNNY CIGARETTES , WE'LL I TRIED ONE .....( Joint - sucking noise.) I SAID - TAI SMOKE'UM BOON DAI YEA ! TAI SMOKE 'UM BOO !".

I saw The Five Keys a few years ago. They claimed the Chinese musicians on the record taught them the chorus , saying it meant , in Mandarin , "The fragrance of the flowers. The sound of the music." UH - HUH.

I'll pre-apologize for this, but since I've been a fan for 25 years, I have to mention the Dwarves:

RAY ELUDED TO THIS SAME THING , A FEW MONTHS AGO....OF COURSE , HE'S ELUDED TO IT MORE THAN ONCE.

BEFORE DAVE HAD HIS STROKE , THERE WAS CASUAL TALK OF A REUNION , BUT , NOW , THEY'RE BOTH SAYING IT'S A POSSIBILITY.

I NEVER SAW THE KINKS. I REMEMBER THEY CAME THRU IN 1981 , BEFORE THE MEGA - FAME THAT HAD ELUDED THEM IN THE STATES . I TRIED TO TALK MY BROTHER INTO GOING (HE HAD A CAR.). HE DID'NT WANT TO GO BECAUSE WE'D JUST SEEN THE LIVE 'ONE FOR THE ROAD" SHOW ON TV. I WANTED TO SEE THEM FOR THAT VERY SAME REASON !!! THEY PROBABLY PLAYED TO 5000 PEOPLE , IF EVEN. AFTER "COME DANCING" AND STUFF , THEY WERE PLAYING TO 19,000.

 IF THEY REFORM AND ACTUALLY TOUR , THEY'LL PLAY TO TENS , IF NOT HUNDREDS , OF THOUSANDS A THROW. GOOD FOR THEM , IF IT HAPPENS. BUT , I'D HAVE RATHER SEEN THEM PLAY THEIR EXTENDED ENGAGEMENTS/DRINKING PARTIES IN THE 70'S ,WERE I OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE.       I SAW RAY DO HIS SOLO SHOW , TWICE , FIVE YEARS APART , AND BOTH SHOWS WERE EXACTLY THE SAME , EXCEPT IN THAT HE OMITTED "DAVID WATTS' , THE HIGH POINT OF THE FIRST SHOW , WHEN I SAW HIM THE SECOND TIME. HIS HEART WAS JUST NOT IN IT (THO' SEEING IT THE FIRST TIME WAS GREAT.) . THEN , I SAW HIS FIRST SOLO TOUR WITH A LIVE BAND. IT WAS COOL , HE DID A FEW ODDBALL CUTS , BUT.......IT WAS A BIT TOO "ADULT CONTEMPORARY" FOR MY PERSONAL TASTES.  I HEARD THE NEXT TOUR WAS BETTER. 

   BUT , I SAW DAVE IN ABOUT 2001, AND HE KILLED IT. ALL PUNK AS FUCK HARD - ROCKIN' KINKS KILLERS (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A LOVELY "DEATH OF A CLOWN")....I JUST THOUGHT , MAN , YOUR BROTHER NEEDS YOU. Y'KNAAAA?      I SAW DAVE RECENTLY , AND HE'S DOING SO WELL. Loses his place , sometimes , too much guitar hero spunk , sometimes , but , it was still a very good show. Even if I preferred the Yobbo  Rock he was doing before his stroke.   OF COURSE , it's really down to The Brothers, but , if Mick signs on , Ray suggested that the other members of Kastoff Kinks ( Kinks tribute band madeup of past members of the group.) could help fill the gaps.            We'll see.

The Crushers from Moscow... they did not sound like any other local groups

OK . MY REPLY GOT 'ET. I first heard The Cramps and The Fleshtones in 1981 , and I saw the connection to stuff like The Music Machine , Electric Prunes and The Seeds. I was aware of the so-called "Paisley Revival" , but had only heard a couple of those bands in the early 80's. I was also getting into Blues  ,and there were two things it was'nt cool to be into at the time - Blues music and The Cramps.  "Punk Blues" SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED ABOUT 10 YEARS BEFORE IT DID. Jeffrey Evans deserves , but does not recieve , all the credit for kicking it off........well , you could say Hound Dog Taylor was the real Godfather.

I suppose this is a good place to make my entrance.  The Cramps Bad Music lp (cassette rather) was the first intentionally "garage rock" type music I heard.  I think the cover art intrigued me.  At the time (high school, early/mid eighties) I was only interested in hardcore and straight ahead punk mixed with a little black sabbath and motorhead since metal was all my friends were into.  I remember popping the tape in and thinking "Is this like surf music or something?"  My friends unanimously voted that it sucked balls but I thought there was something important going on although expanding my horizons really was a process that happened a bit at a time.  Not too long after I met some hillbilly who turned me on to Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker & Lightnin Hopkins and the dots started connecting.
