Bio
The new wave of British Freakbeat from North Staffordshire, England.
Fusing hallucinogenic garage rock, psychedelia & beat music, Sawel Underground are burgeoning in the 60s revival scene with their distinctive gritty, hypnotic sound, mirroring the escapism and abandon felt in the derelict cities of Northern and Midland Britain.
Drawing influences from the counter-culture of Britain and America in the mid to late 60s, their take on the modern psychedelic renaissance is dosed with tripping intensity and dream-like giddiness. Their debut single 'Wild Thing' released in 2020, with Santa Rosa Records describing it as having "introduced (Sawel) to the creative demigods of vintage sound and the mind-bending textures of the sixties". Writing about the music video; "the avant-garde music video exhibits Sawel's interest in eccentric fashion and visual style, and seems to further their exploration into the dark ocean of artistic thought".
Their first original single 'Hundred-Sunned Dream Sister I', was released in March '21 and marked their first radio play from BBC Radio Stoke, with Indie-Tapes.com commenting "the combo of infectious guitar riffs and strong lead vocals is just amazing and I adore the special lo-fi elements in the mix. A fresh, super energetic and very well produced record".
After playing at Your City Festival + Better World Fest, the latter half of the year was spent touring major cities in England & working on their next release for February.
