COMING IN FEB 2013 : TWO ESSENTIAL ALBUMS ON FRUITS DE MER!

  • COMING IN FEB 2013 : TWO ESSENTIAL ALBUMS

'RE-EVOLUTION : FdM SINGS THE HOLLIES'

'WHATEVER HAPPENEND TO THE SOFT HEARTED SCIENTISTS'

    VARIOUS - RE-EVOLUTION (COL. 1) (+7")

The Hollies - Manchester's answer to The Beatles, and a bloody good answer at that. Great songs, great vocals, great band - so why are they so massively underrated? Their albums, especially from 66-68, were minor masterpieces, but their record label seemed obsessed with singles success, so the albums were underpromoted, and so many of the songs were rarely heard. Fruits de Mer is doing its bit to redress the balance with an LP + 7" extravaganza that showcases 16 songs, reinterpreted by FdM artists from the UK, USA, Russia, Sweden and Portugal..the re-evolution starts here....The Higher State, The Bevis Frond, Us and Them, Beautify Junkyards, Hi-Fiction Science, The Electric Stars and many more reinterpret classic songs originally recorded by The Hollies, with new versions that range from the authentic to the psychedelic, from progressive
to seriously off-the-wall, but always with a real love for the original - and all spread liberally across 19" of lovely vinyl.

SOFT HEARTED SCIENTISTS - WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE...(2LP+7")

On coloured vinyl with gatefold sleeve - limited 800 copies
This is all rather different for Fruits de Mer, but when the opportunity came along, I just couldn't let it lie...

Soft Hearted Scientists are unsung heroes of mine (until now) - I just love pretty much everything they've done - they somehow manage to combine Syd Barrett, sixties psychedelia in general, British music-hall, gothic horror, Welsh folklore and about 93 other influences and create something pretty unique and damn magical. Superb vocals, wonderfully-crafted songs, intricate instrumentals - they've got the lot; they've also had more than their share of bad luck with record labels and it's not about to change now they're working with Fruits de Mer. 'Whatever Happened To The Soft Hearted Scientists' combines the best of their CD releases to-date, together with a title track specially recorded for this release, a preview of tracks from their forthcoming album AND a 7" of demos. It was supposed to be a a single album but, hard as I tried to whittle the tracks down, I just couldn't get down to less than 95 minutes of music, so it's turned into a vast double album + 7" EP monster. Sorry, but honestly, not a minute of it is wasted, and not a minute of it has appeared on vinyl before.
