    • Hi there,

on July 28 we run an international Garage Punk Festival at the Sputnik Café in Münster, Germany. Now, one band has cancelled, and we´re looking for replacement. Any bands around here at that time?

    • Since the topic is here and is being re-used I just wanted to point this out: Portugal is always good.

I know, coming all the way just to do a show in Portugal is hard and expensive but if you are next door, in Spain, its totally worth it to drob by for a couple of gis in Portugal.

Lisbon has some cool places that host as many events as bands want to come and play. There a thirst for good live acts and people are appreciate of the bands' effort to come and play for them. Also dont be put off if you find yourselves in the south side of the river, they have an active scene with great stuff happening with dedicated crowds in the most unlikely venues.

If you are in the south check in “Loule” (town) for “Bafo de Baco” (venue) its THE spot for rock/garage/punk in the “Algarve” region.

If you are in the northern area go to “Porto”, its the second largest city.

    • This is us asking you a favour:

Waking up from a loooong hibernation in the forests of Southern Germany, we find ourselves still lazy but hot for playing gigs again. But we're still a little too dizzy to get gigs by ourselves... ;-) So, if anyone wants us around (preferably Southern/Rest of Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria), contact us. We'd LOVE to wreck your place!!!

      Cheers, Doc Sanchez

    • Thanks Gringo, now we just need to get ourselves a van and head out on the road!x

    • Portugal for sure, come on over to Lisbon and the "south of the river" area.

You could contact Edgar Raposo from Groovie Records ( http://www.groovierecords.com ) who might be able to set you up for a couple gigs nearby.

Depending on what you call later this year you can also try and come over for the "Barreiro Rocks" Festival, they have an impressive CV by now ( http://www.barreirorocks.org/ ). I dont think you can access previous years' line-ups but at the festival you will find the most dedicated, highly specialized garage rock audience. It is organized by http://www.heypachuco.com/

    • Hi,

We're planning on heading back to Europe again later in the year and was wondering which countries have the best garage rock audiences at the minute? I've been told Spain and Italy are good for gigs?

      Cheers,

    • Do the online visa waiver and sneak in under the radar is my advice to you! It WILL cost thousands to get a band's worth of visas.

    • March 23, 2012 6:03 AM CDT
    • Does anyone know anything about getting VISA's to come and play in the US? We really want to come over but have been told it could cost thousands to get the VISAs!

      Thanks!

    • WOW! Thank you! Extremely helpful!

Not exactly sure where I'll be when, but between 4/5 and 4/21 I'll be hitting Porto, Braga, Lisbon (with day trips to Sintra and Evora,) The Azores, and Madeira.  Can't wait!

      Thanks again!

    • If you specify dates it might be easier to point you to live events.

      ## RECORD SHOTS IN LISBON ##

My all time favorite record shop is Groovie Records, they have great stuff and promote some good live music events (no affiliation, just like the guys).
Not sure they still have their physical shop or have gone online only, I always catch them on events and buy directly ( http://www.groovierecords.com/ )

      ## BARS IN LISBON ##

AREA #1: Start from the top in Bairro Alto 10pm to 02am. Each corner has its own type of people and music.

BAR: Corto Maltese (not sure of the name, but its full of Corto Maltese drawing on the wall)
      ADDRESS: Rua da Rosa, 136
Its a small bar with great music.
A good place to find out whats going on, ask the barman, check the fleyrs and posters.

BAR: Indie Café (in Bairro Alto)
      ADDRESS: Travessa dos Inglesinhos

      VENUE: TEATRO DO BAIRRO
ADDRESS: Rua dos Caetanos (round the corner from Indie Café)

AREA #2: Drift towards the river, on your way down passa by Bica, (Address: Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo)
A steep street full of more civilized bars and a more adult crowd (not as fun though)

AREA #3: Going all the way down to the river, Cais do Sodré. You have a street painted pink where you have a load of places to go, mainly CLUBS.
Starts kicking late, from 2h30 onwards... you can club till 15pm if you wish. Some places close at 10am, other re-open at 6am.

CLUB / VENUE: Roterdão (Roterdam Club)
      ADDRESS: Rua nova do Carvalho
Opens around 00h30 and have live music downstairs during the week.

      CLUB / VENUE: Music Box
ADDRESS: Rua nova do Carvalho (next door to previous)
Open around 10pm and has some local band and events during the week

      CLUB / VENUE: Transmission
ADDRESS: Rua de São Paulo (literally on the opposite site of the building / block from the previous two)

Each place has its own people and music, have a look around.

      ## PORTO ##

      Not too familiar with Porto.
I went a couple of time to "Plano B" and surrounding area near the main street (Avenidas dos Aliados).
Something called "Armazém do Chá" also has events and live bands.

      No idea regarding record shops.

You can always grab a copy of "Time Out Porto" magazine.

This site might help > http://oportocool.wordpress.com/

Same for lisbon, grab a copy of "Time Out Lisboa"

      Have fun!

    • Hey folks,

I'll be lucky enough to be visiting Portugal for the first time in a few weeks. Wondering if anybody could recommend a good place to buy records, be it an actual store or an outdoor flee market, and/or a place where I might catch a good live band at night. I'll be in Lisbon and Oporto, for the most part. Any advice would be appreciated.

      Thanks,

      Dave

    • Greetings friends,

Whats going on? Who is playing where?

Going to Helsinki from the 8th to the 16th of April. Its my first time that far into the Northeast of Europe.

The way I see it the nightlife is a definning characteristic of any city and its people. Any good Garage/Rock/Alternative/Blues concerts going on? Any good bars and clubs to visit?

Its in the night time that the magic happens. Anyone knows the place?

      Thanks,
      Jacome

    • Goo goo muck!

Ca a l'air super comme soirée, contente de voir que ça se passe en France... Malheureusement pour moi je vis dans le Sud, alors, à quand l'élargissement du concept à la Province? Du côté de Nice par exemple... ;-)

Oh when the sun comes down and the moon comes up... You'd better duck, when I show up!!!

    • Hey! Sorry, no direct help from me, but some club I know:

Is Stuttgart an option? There is the GOLDMARKS (<----internet magic link) which hosts a lot of rad bands from the Garage-y sector. Haven't seen a April calendar, so maybe? Don't know if it's not too far off drive wise....
