    • Bands are very welcome to come play the Fratcave in Bristol if you are doing a tour. You can contact us through the Hi Class Joes page. The gigs are small 50-100 people but we pay you reguardless of wether we brake even or not. We have an all Vintage pa system and vintage amps and drums should you need them. Bristol is 120 miles west of London.

    • Have to agree with Mr Tea ("you crazy fool") bout gigs here in the UK.

I'm still sore from all the times we've been shafted by promoters over the years.

Agreed fee's change a few days before gigs and after your travel arrangements have been made with the promoters knowing its going to be difficult for ya to pull out.Or.....ya only get 20% of the fee slapped in ya hand after the gig.I'd give it a miss.

Heard only good things bout Germany from friends but never played there.

For me France is the place.Ya get fed, watered and given a place to sleep for the night plus ya fee and the crowds are bonkers and up for it to boot!

    • Yeah, we hear a lot of good things about France and Switzerland as well as St. Petersburg (two bands from Tübingen were I live played there and were stunned).

    • As there is a lot of shows in Paris those times, it depends ...

we can have a blast on week days and a shitty weekend or the contrary...

For example tomorrow i play the last show with one of my bands and there's also some friends playing 5mn walking from the club...

    • Yes Germany is good, but so is France, Norway, Finland and Spain, Italy is a bit quiet but they pay quite well and the food is amazing of course. Germany and Spain seem the best for selling LP's & merch etc. UK and especially London is shit because promoters are tight and dont wanna put their hands in their pockets. Its got nothing to do with attendance. I've played gigs in London with 100-200 people and the promoter still gave a bullshit lame excuse about losing money and didnt pay us. On the other hand I've played venues in france and germany to 20 people and still got 300€. The difference is they stick to their word and dont bullshit. You either get a door deal or fixed fee and they always stick to it, whereas in UK it can be hit or miss if you get your money, so a lot bands miss it out on European tours. The minimum normal fee for playing here in Sweden is around 2000sek about £200, I dont know many UK promoters that think £200 is a low price for a band. I hear so many stories of bands playing UK and getting shafted with money and the same promoters names keep cropping up with the same bullshit excuses. It seems some London promoters dont know how to arrange a gig or put on a show, my advice is if you cant pay the bands dont book 'em, or get whats coming. But.... there are some great promoters there too of course but unfortunately they are few and far between, I will mention, PJ at Dirty Water, Neil at Stay Sick and Carl at Go Go cage they always pay well and stick to their word

    • I think Gringo has hit it pretty much on the head there. All of Germany, and the big (and some not so big) cities of France, Italy and Spain all worth visiting for bands.

As a promoter in London its probably worth pointing out WHY bands don't get paid as much here in the UK. The main reasons are 1) general attendence levels are lower here than in mainland Europe, and 2) lots of venues organise shows themselves in Europe rather than promoters, and they usually have bigger budgets to work with can afford to lose money if a night is quiet.

      Also...

      1) London is a huge city and takes time to travel around. People often wanna go to shows but don't cos it will take them 3 hours to get there and back on tubes and buses. It doesn't sound a lot, but it takes it toll.

      2) in London theres lots of venues AND lots of promoters. Its not unusual for me to do our regular garage night and then find out later 2 promoters I've never heard of have suddenly decided garage punk is their new love and have organised their own party the same night. so we all suffer.

Having said that I and others do put on garage bands and have 200-500 showing up. But in general we work with below 100, causing headaches with money...Many bands know this, but many also don't.

    • The buy only stuff is the actual physical EP as we don't like to charge for downloads, but the download is still not available cause it hasn't been released yet.

However, we'll send you a direct download link to all our stuff privately, that should be a lot easier.

    • Hey guys ....

I don't usually play much streaming stuff online, unless it is a podcast I like .... I tend to download bands' comp material and later when I have time, I go through it .... and decide what show i will play what.  Looks like your stuff is buy only?

    • De Venturas,

Thanks guys, but I am no pro ... just an over-educated punker who happened to be fascinated with Asia since I was young and did the old YALE Law degree thing in-between running back and forth to US and Asia for business.  But, yes, you have it right ... the visa gets you travel rights in every Euro country signed-onto the Pact, but the working regulations vary wildly.  You could find yourself blacklisted from  your favorite Euro country, even for tourism if you get into trouble.

Mexican Moustache - thanks for the add!!! and ...

Unknown? Perhaps .... well, let's get started with some airplay and promotion and take it from there.  Well, I did mean demos and of course then, whatever will be on the EP and I will play both.  Email would be nice.  I see now your comments about bandcamp and will download now, as I am just checking email here, 2.45 am Thailand time, cuz I can't seem to sleep tonight ....

Since I don't need more spam :) (from all over the internet), I will send you my email privately.

      Thanks!!

      Max

    • Thank you both!

Yeah, we know that a certain permit is needed but we just don't know if we can get it ourselves from Spain or if it has to be the promoter/band/whatever booking the gig wherever it might be, or if it what the easier/better way of doing it would be.

Of course we would like to tour Asia but I fear we might be too unknown to make it possible..

Max, you mean a direct link for download? We have download avaliable for our demos in bandcamp and the downloads for the 7" EP will be available shortly after we present it, as it has not come out from the pressing plant yet (although I could email it to you if you'd like).

    • Right, didn't even think about the work part of the story... As far as Europe goes, every country has it's own rules. If you get a Visa for one you can travel in all. However, working is a whole different ball game cause you'll probably need work permits for each seperate country you want to do gigs in. Here's a site in English of a foundation that works with things like that. To me it looks next to impossible to arrange for yourself and you would be best off to have a Pro like Max Volume help you out.

    • If memory serves me right, you cannot work (i.e., receive money) while doing anything in Europe with only the Schengen visa and no work permit .. however, I think things may have changed.  I really specialize in US visas and Asian visas .....

If you want to do gigs in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, etc., all with established or newly growing music scenes, that I can help ya on.

Now that you brought that up, it may be a good topic for a 15 min discussion on my podcast.

Do you guys have a direct link to your music?

    • Hi!

We are going to release our first 7" EP soon (although you can already listen to it in our profile page or  bandcamp) and we would like to play some gigs in London as our vocalist lives there now. However, the guitarist is Colombian and cannot enter the UK (and probably other countries of the EU) with his passport like the rest of the band.

Does anyone know the requierements for doing this? Any experiences?

By the way, we are very keen on playing outside Spain so if anyone who likes our stuff would help us book some gigs, it would be infinitely appreciated!

      Thank you!

    • On the evening of the 7th day The Frowning Clouds came out to play. The five halflings have quite the obsession with the rhythm & blues of old and were summoned from the misty depths of the jungles of Kaonga by king BoBo to show this music to inhabitants of the land of Norm. .. Primarily about Jangly textures, wild rhythms, throbin’ beats and wishful thinking instead of elongated guitar solos and ponytales, we prefer to show what you can achieve as a sect!

The Mobbs are up for doing shows in 2012 across Europe.  Any venues that want to have us? out there?  Say hello, we got a super tight rock and roll show for you.

we got shows for them in Berlin Paris and Brussels, lookin for Amsterdam or Barcelona?  Ideally we would like to get in touch with people that could book three shows at a time over a weekend.  We need help with european contacts.  The let rip every time these lads.  Their new album is out now, check their sounds on my page.  They have a very english rock and roll vibe.

So if you are or know a promoter that knows a few tricks pass on the madness.
