Sandgate’s The Higher State have, to much delight from the folk-garage-psych fans amongst us, been releasing 45s by their favourite acts these past couple of years under their State Records imprint. Recordings hark back to a simpler time where music industry marketeering is shunned in favour of free artistic expression, and Georgian townhouse basements are considered ideal recording studios. What has emerged to date is an eclectic roster of singles, all recorded on analogue equipment in glorious mono sound. Now following on from some low-key local appearances the label have teamed up with the Sweet but Deadly collective to host a special night in London to showcase a selection of the label’s talent. On Saturday October 30th at The Drop expect live sets from label dons THE HIGHER STATE (http://www.myspace.com/thehigherstategaragepsych), Folkestone’s THE LYKES OF YEW (http://www.myspace.com/thelykesofyew), and Medway conglomerate GROOVY UNCLE (http://www.myspace.com/groovy uncle). Also on the night you will be able to buy all the physical releases from the label so far, and dance away until the early hours courtesy of the fine young gentlemen from The Acid Gallery club night.
