    • We're going to be there from the 13th to the 22nd of October and I was going to ask the same question, any good band playing then? Will be sure to check out the bars mentioned, some great looking bands - hope some of them are on while we're there!

    • We had a really good time at Las Guindas. Great music playing and really friendly people. I think we were there from maybe midnight to 4 am, is it a cafe during the day? Barbara Ann was cool too, though you could almost walk right past it and not know it's there.
We also went and checked out some of the Tiki Bars in town. Crappy dance music and every drink tasted the same at all of them (cheap cough syrup), but worth checking one out for the decor at the begining of your night.

Some info has changed: Las Guindas (C/ Sant Pau, near Ronda St. pau) in now one of the hottest places along with Barbara Ann. There's a new Rock and Roll bar in the c/ Escudillers area called the Red Rocket.
Overstocks (record store) doesn't exist anymore, but there's a new one that's worth checking out: Discos Juandó (only 2nd hand vinyl), just two minutes from the Picasso Museum:

      c/ GIRALT EL PELLISSER, 2 B
      08003 BARCELONA
Behind Santa Caterina's Market, nearly in the corner with c/ Carders
      How to arrive
      tel 933191674
      email discosjuando@hotmail.com
      Timetable:
      MON-SAT
      10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 20:00
      http://juando.vox.com/
Penniman is the best label/mailorder in Barcelona: http://www.pennimanrecords.com/
The rest is pretty much the same. Still very hot and still beware of pickpockets. Any questions, just let us know!

    • I am heading to Barcelona for a week ( Sept.24th - Oct.2nd) and would like to know if there is anyone out there who can point me in the right direction for good music.

    • September 2, 2010 6:20 PM CDT
    • We're The Foreign Characters. We've been active for a few months (although I started with the project 2 years ago) and have been playing mostly in Madrid. I thought I'd post in this forum because I'd like to know more people from around here that are interested in Garage/Psychedelic music (and so might like what we do :) ) and even other bands because I'm sure there must be more people playing garage in this city, and it's always easier to organize concerts between more people...

Anyway, we're playing on the 16th of September at El Hebe (in Vallekas) for anyone reading this that lives nearby. The entrance is free.

    • When Shindig!, the leading magazine for 60s and 70s music and culture, meets up with London’s retro-rocking Sweet but Deadly and Dirty Water promoters you know you’re in for a memorable night out. They have made a corner of King’s Cross, the Social Club, their own little subcultural haven, inviting the best band’s and DJs to stoke the sonic fires.

Who is the best garage band in Europe right now? A tough question for some, but for... us it’s not: it’s THE STAGGERS (http://www.myspace.com/staggers), hands down. The Austrian six-piece have a fearsome reputation as a killer live act: they urge their audiences to ‘get dressed up to get messed up!’. Frontman Wild Evel certainly lives up to his name, his suicidal stage antics matching the frenzied, fuzzed-up and trashy beats being played behind him. Currently on the road to promote second album ‘Zombies Of Love’ and dropping in for us, they will make you feel that being a teen delinquent is the only future worth having. Support on the night is from those paisley-decorated dandies from Derby, THE SILVER FACTORY (http://www.myspace.com/24hoursfromheaven).

When the bands have finished wiping your brain from it’s skull you should head for the dance floor and let Phil Istine, Mr. Moon Jelly (The Lysergics) and Gary The Tall (Wildish Slights) get you lurching madly to some prime 60s garage, beat, psych, soul and rock’n’roll.

      @ King’s Cross Social Club, 2 Britannia Street, London WC1X 9JE
Nearest station: Kings Cross (5 mins). 8pm-2am
      or £8 on the door

we recommend you book tickets, this event will probably sell out!
