Sorry for the double thread up there............:(

Nifty thread. I grew up reading Hulk, Fantastic 4, Spiderman, Thor, Capt. America, Iron Man, etc. so here I am. BUT, till now, I like the movie adaptations of those superheroes that convey ONLY sound anti-war and life-learning, good value education to young readers (the target group these comics and movies are made for!!). Having ranted about that, I can safely say that for me, the ONLY good superhero movies have got to be Hulk, Iron Man, Spiderman, Thor...even Superman. I can easily dump Capt. America (TOO nationalistic, pro war and falsely patriotic!!!), X-Men (moronic stories at that!!) and the like. That's MY 2 cents:)

Anyone who likes garage and comics should check out the Rockin' Bones series.

It's like an unofficial Cramps comic.

Just to keep this thread going, what do any of you think about the current state of comic book adaptations on the horizon? Do you think Marvel is doing a good job with their Avengers template? And how about how things are going with DC? It seems the heat is on them to try and compete with Marvel in what seems to be the laying the foundation for a "Justice League" project.

"gluten-free no-fat quinoa salad" blah!.... I think someone wrote a song about that:

It's just like any artistic effect, if used sparingly/intentionally, it can be awesome...but if it's just used haphazardly every time you take a picture of your gluten-free no-fat quinoa salad.... then it's a drag.

As librarians ourselves our reading list grows quicker than it shrinks. Here's a list that was recently posted on the ALA site that added a few more titles to our "To Read" list. What have you read and can you add any recommendations of your own?

Jim Jarmusch gotta be up there as well. Coffee and Cigarettes, Ghost Dog and my film of all time, Night On Earth. He stays the right side of mainstream. No way will Hollywood ever make anything as good as the independants, art house etc.... They do try hard tho'.

We introduced student loans in the late 90's. Now all our young Dr's, engineers, dentist's, teachers etc move overseas to get jobs and to either hide from repayments or to try to afford the repayments. It's costing our country billions now, it got so bad they had to stop interest been added to the loans so people would pay them off. I'd happily pay higher tax for someone’s kids to be able to go to school or get quality healthcare.
Oh, and the other great thing our government is doing now; building prisons and cutting welfare, best way to deal with poor people is to make them criminals...
It's so fucked. The whole college system in the states is ruined. I have friends getting seriously ripped off as adjunct professors. Intelligent hard working people with advanced degrees and mountains of debt that can't get benefits or a full time wage, for universities that make millions off sports and inflated tuition.
