yeah, I used to order a lot of new garage albums in the late '80s, early '90s from that New York dealer... what was the name of it?

They used to advertise in Goldmine (so did I once or twice back in '78)...

Of course, for the really rare records there was (and still is??) The Record Vault, headed by Zari... and he always had a few used bargains in the $10 or less range.

Haven't seen him in a while... does he still sell at the KUSF record swaps?

I have some old Record Vault catalogs, somewhere... and one (empty) Record Vault matchbook from their store (long gone) on Polk St. in San Francisco.

Leighton (lead singer of The Morlocks) "worked" there for a while!

does anyone know where to get great garage and punk records via mailorder? before purchasing via the internet i used to get a lot of great records through the Skull Duggery Label from massachusets and also from the back of the Estrus catalog. as soon as something is released now it goes straight to Ebay i dont know really where to find stuff anymore. i'm only looking for vinyl 45s and Lps of mostly garage punk stuff.

I love radio as well and growing up I used to love to listen to the Huggy Boy Show on KRLA. This is where I discovered a lot of the Chicano rock n roll of the 60s (aside from my family parties). This is where I first heard "Huggies Bunnies."

Thanks to the internet I've finally been able to hear some of Mad Daddy's radio shows (which I knew about from the Cramps). Yep, that is the risk you take when you own old stuff! I got piles of old gear that some little thing (I can't find a replacement part for) has broken and I know what it is worth so I won't sell it. It really comes down to the "Time, Money and/or Effort" you want to sink into something to keep it working. (or how much do you wanna pay to store it until you can find that "Time, Money and/or Effort". Sometiem the best thing to do is to sell it to someone who want to do something with it and get what you can out of it.

The gig was great. They got a really tight schedule, so all is a bit chaotic, but I think they're really enjoying themselves. I next time they're gonna have to slow down a wee bit. It was such a good time though. They went down really well.
Mike's got everything ain't he. I think he sold his organ guitar though (those things are famously unreliable). He's got a couple of Vox Continentals tucked away somewhere too.

If you must know why R. Dean Taylor isn't soul, listen to his only hit "Indiana Wants Me" (#5 in the fall of 1970) and you'll see why he isn't considered soul. Yet he did co-write "Love Child" for The Supremes and "There's a Ghost In My House" is very big on the Northern Soul circuit, so go figure.

But I must concur with those who say check out the Norton catalog. They've got literally tons of raw soul and R&B so you can't go wrong with them at all. And while you're there, do check out their King Coleman release, "It's Dance Time" for some great raw stuff.

When I cycle to work is the best time to listen to the podcasts on the MP3 player.

I actuallly work in front of a computer, so I just open the garagepunk podcast page and leave it open while I work away on the terminal server. Sometimes the music just takes over me and I lose all sense of rationality and stop working, not soo good but I have a great time, haha. I plan to get an iphone soon so that I can take the podcasts with me wherever I go.

Actually my original point was how do you listen to the shows without getting chained to the computer? I mean a lot of people are too busy to really just stay in one place and listen to them. So, what would an alternate means of listening be? I listen to most of my music in the car since I drive a lot.

Except when you want to listen to the podcasts in your car, or on the bus, or on a campout... portable mp3 players are all about convenience, baby! Having your entire music collection wherever you go (not to mention all of these great podcasts) comes in mighty handy! ;)

But (to for those who refuse to get a portable mp3 player - much as I resisted for a long time), to listen on your computer is just fine!!!
