I've heard really good things about this film, your comments included. I can't wait to see it. The last time I watched a Clash documentary it was "Westway To The World" and it was pretty disappointing, except for some early rehearsal footage.

As it was 37oC outside the other day, I sat down to watch "The Future Is Unwritten"
I've never been a huge Clash fan,and always wondered about some peoples slavish devotion to Mr Strummer, but that has all changed.
Firstly, the movie was a really well made and constructed documentary; managing to convey a real sense of the times Strummer lived in and the man himself.
Filmmaker Julien Temple, whilst obviously a friend and fan of Strummer doesn't let that stop him painting a complete and occasionally unflattering picture of his subject. Great use of home movies, live concert footage and Strummer's own drawings and friends and family sitting round campfires just talking, make for a wonderfully evocative film.
This would have to be one of the best, if not the best rock'n'roll documentaries I've seen.
And you know what, I'm putting a pile of Clash records on my mp3 player right now.
I have to say that I liked the film, but I was looking forward for Ian Curtis to die, haha. I definitely don't think it is a must see.

I don't know, but the Dave Davies autobiography isn't very good. I'm thinking of getting the 33 1/3 series book "Village Green Preservation Society" book as it tells a lot about the band's working relationship, plus it catches them during a very cool period in their history.
Would anyone like to recommend a Kinks biography? "All Day and All of the Night", maybe?

Hi
The neck pickup of my Vox Bobcat is shafted. I can't even get it rewound as the casing is completely sealed and shrunken! Does anyone have a fucked up Vox lying around for spares? Please see the attached photo for the style of pickup. Please mail me if you can help me locate one...
Cheers
Chris Jack
I saw this on the news the other day; http://www.technologyreview.com/Infotech http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/12/04/selftuning.guitar.ap/ http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9584_22-6221226.html http://www.news.com/2100-1041_3-6221226.html and the official word from Gibson; http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/Introducing%20Powertune_%20Gibson_/ I dunno about this though. Years of ear training to stay in tune, and a certain skill that builds up over time has been kinda nullified. The creepy part is the tuner moves the tuning pegs for you. I have very mixed emotions about this (and the air guitar T-shirt too!) Hell I don't even like electronic tuners! (I have a tuning fork!) Also this type of guitar ain't cheap either ($2,500 smackeroos!) Maybe if they made one for a Rickenbacker 12 string I might think about it though (they are such a PITA to tune!) Lemme know whatcha think about this?
Where do you get your inspirations? How do you write your songs? How important are things like originality and skill? Maybe I shouldn't ask that question. Oh well, just curious. I'm not a songwriter, but I wish I was. Maybe someday.
Shit man, I've downloaded sooo much from ya over the past couple o' years ...under several usernames...I think Jim Stark was the last one I used and occasionally hop back on under that "handle"
I like soulseek a lot myself, but I only have a 40GB hard drive, so my stuff is a little limited.
my username is disgusteen and I'm in the garagepunk room whenever I'm on.
What's your favorite fuzz that you are using?? Right now I'm using the Ashbass fuzzbrite, which is a mosrite fuzz clone. very nice buzz, but lacks a little bass when using a bright guitar or amp.
Great song. Doesn't it also have harmonica and vibes on it, too? Wild!
I'll put it on my player when I get a chance. Can't do it right now on dial-up.
thanks alot.
much appreciated.
will track this down.
Try "Gone and Passes By."
trying to find the title of a watch band track.it has a Bo Diddely beat with some fab sitar.help!!!!
What services do you recommend that will let me:
1) Create a stream-like player that allows me to just put the songs up like a real jukebox? (In other words, I can choose what I want to play when.)
2) Have it randomize the order of play (like hitting randomize on an iPod), but possibly starting with my song choices?
Ha, I've still got Hell's Bent on Rockin'- possibly the worst cover art of any album I own!
It's a shame psychobilly didn't just drop down dead at the end of the eighties though. Kill it someone, PLEASE!
You got it mate!
You forgot Hell's Bent on Rockin' (on Nervous)...
The thing is I'm nowhere near creating this online radio station (streaming or podcast) as I really have too much work at the moment. I hope to be able to do that some time in 2008.
Psychobilly these days is so boring. Nothing like the excitement of that time! In fact I lost interest in it when the really narrow-minded bands appeared, like the Klingonz or the Torments.
True, but why create a stream when you can create a stream-like player (like the GaragePunk Podcast jukebox) for a podcast? Then all you have to do is create the podcast. Kill two birds with one stone (not two). Seriously, with the options available to podcasters, it's stupid, antiquated, and a waste of time to create streaming audio files anymore. Just my two cents.
Damn! I was just going to post a comment saying, "What! No Purple Things?", and there they are at number 86.
Looks like the soundtrack of my mid-to-late teens, ie. Blood on the Cats, Rockabilly Psychosis and the Garage Disease, Meltdown, Psycho Attack Over Europe, etc.
