And right around this time, Frank Ridsdale came into the DJ both to talk about his upcoming show the next night and the one next thursday at the Wortley Roadhouse with his combo Slugfest. We talked about stuff and things, Frank's pivotal role in getting punk/new wave bands into the Blue Boot Hotel (which became The Cedar Lounge) back in the late 70's. The art display that opened in Hamilton at Hammer City Records the next day featuring the artwork of Lyndon Andrews (who did most of the early Uranus and Demics posters) and many of the bands that Frank has been involved with in his 40 year musical career! Catch Frank live if you can, he's always fun and more than willing to take requests from the audience.
18. The Stetson Brothers....Apache....live recording from somewhere featuring the talented Jerry Fletcher on lead guitar.
19. Uranus....Tommy Get Your Gun....from their very first release, a 4 song 7" from 1978. This is the same combo that had a top 10 hit in 1980 with You're So Square!
Big Thanx to Frank Ridsdale for coming onair live and thanx to all our listeners and all those crazies that email, facebook message and say HEY on the street and at shows!! It's all for fun and this was a really fun show with Frank....did you know Frank's band, The Sci-Phonics played in our basement about 30 years ago? The show was a blast for all attended as Rena was teaching ESL to adults back then, and some of them even came for the party! Did you know that Uranus was the fave band of the bikers from this area of Ontario? And they'd regularly attend shows and even invite the band to play at their gatherings! And that Uranus was the first rock'n'roll band to play at the Blue Boot and opened the doors for the punk/new wave combos to finally have a regular place to play!
