But , I'd recommend The Spiders , Golden Cups , Carnabeats , Voltage , Beavers , Dynamites , Outkast , Playboy , Rangers , Swing West....The Spiders and Golden Cups were among the biggest , so there IS footage on You Tube, more of The Spiders , last I checked. The excellent "G.S. I Love You" series on Big Beat , curated by Alec Palao , will definitely set you in the right direction. That , and the Teen Trash From Tokyo series (3 volumes , released on colored vinyl , from Italy , they tell us. These came out Late 80'S OR EARLY 90's.) , if you can track 'em down....But , before even that , there was the Elecki movement ,fronted by Guitarist , Singer , Composer and Arranger , Yuzo Kayawa.  Elecki was inspired by The Ventures and Surf music. If you like Los Straitjackets , you already like Elecki. As Group Sound took over , Kayawa got into film sountracks , including some of the popular Giant Monster -Sci Fi films. But , his work in that area was also very Psych and Garage oriented.  I think he still records today. I saw video from just a few years ago , and it still sounded like the early Elecki stuff.  I've only recently taken any interest in post - GS Japanese Rock , but , the first Glam band inJapan , Vodka Collins , come recommended by me , and probably several others , here. Vodka Collins was actually lead by  a White guy from the East Coast , Alan Merrill , with two Japanese band members. Man's Ruin put out a CD of their recordings , very Bowie/Bolanesque with a good , hard guitar sound. Merrill moved to the UK ,and had a hit with The Arrows. That song would go on to be one of the biggest Rock singles by a female artist in the last Quarter of the 20TH Century.

It's been a while , but I'd still recommend Mescaline Drive , a 80's - 90's (?)  all - Female Psych/Garage / Pop / Punk kinda band . A guy in Japan was nice enough to tell me about their current offshoot band , their name escapes me , now.

 Sleez Sisters - All Female , 90's , Punk .ONE 45 ON SYMPATHY with a version of "Sick on You" by The Boys and a great "Theme song". Holds up pretty well.

Sledge Hammer (80's?) - Surely the only Japanese skinhead band to cover "Merry Jingle" , the Christmas medley recorded by key members of Thin Lizzy and The Sex Pistols as The Greedies.

70'S -VODKA COLLINS , Glam , fronted by roundeye gai - jinius , Allan Merrill (He wrote "I Love Rock'n'Roll". Joan Jett still owes him one. ).

60's - Yuzo Kayawa - Spearheaded the "Eleki" movement ( Influenced by Surf and The Ventures.)  , movie soundtracks , even Garage and Psych . Considered one of the true forefathers of Japanese Rock'n'Roll. Still active.

Group Sound ( Garage /Psych and Pop sung in English and Japanese) - Spiders , Tigers , Golden Cups , Playboy , Carnabeats , Dynamites ( Also with Allan Merrill), Outkast (yes.) , Mops , Beavers , Swing West , Voltage ,. A ZILLION OTHERS.

Think they are pretty new and I only came across them because they are listed as support for Ty Segal who i'm seeing next week.

By the way this is exactly the sort of thread that I love this site for. Mmmmmm new bands!

Although some peoples definition of new is a bit.... well.... old... but I'll stop myself there so I don't become a meany.

There is a bunch of cool new bands. I particularly love the Tough Shits, Natural Child, Barrerracudas, Gentleman Jessie, Cozy (new powerpop/glam band on Hozac) Warm Soda (Matthew Melton's new band). Also, Puerto Rican garage like Davila 666 & Los Vigilantes is really great.

These guys are from Germany.  This completely made my day.

In my expeirience I think the hospitality you get on the continent is second to none, Belguim, France, Italy and Spain in particular. Here is an example, On my arrival I was picked up from the Airport, taken for something to eat, then to my hotel, then collected from the hotel in the evening and taken to the venue, via a visit to a restuarant for dinner, the following night I was taken out again for something to eat, then picked up from the hotel in the morning and taken back to the airport. My Flight, Hotel, food and drinks were all paid for, plus they paid me for doing it. Going through some of the reply's on this thread, someone did mention that it depends on who the organisers are. The weekender I am involved. I have taken on board the way I was treated as stated above and we have decided to do our best to set a standard of hospitality. I think if the organisers are DJ's themselves and have done a fiar stint over the years, then they have an understanding of what effort is made to entertain crowds, as we know its not just about turning up with a box of 45s is it. BTW A GOOD TOPIC TO BE DISCUSSED

     That's too funny. I still think the funniest instance of hot (NOT!!!!!) tidy whitey action on stage was when I saw The Damned , I think , in 1997. Of course , The Cap'n was known for lettin' the ol' boy out  , from as far back as the first U.S tour in '77 (With The Dead Boys) . But , at this gig , he was down to his not - so - tidy whities, toward the end of the show ("Make 'em beg"). They were hangin' so low on him , he could have had a hammock - stuffing contest against Felix and his Amazing Underpants , AND WON !  But , WHEN THE SHOW WAS OVER , INSTEAD OF GOING BACKSTAGE (There was'nt really a backstage entrance from the stage , itself.), He just lept off the stage , still in his underwear , until , predictably , a female fan yanked them off. He carried on , smiling , shaking hands , giving people the "Thumbs up" sign , going , "RIGHT , CHEERS! BRILLIANT ! NICE ONE !".

......OH , AND THEY TELL ME OF THIS BAND CALLED NAZ NOMAD AND tHE NIGHTMARES.  THEIR REISSUE IN THE 80's OUTSOLD HALF THE EVA CATALOGUE AND "PEBBLES VOL. MCXVIII . Vatican City Lashes Back.". DAMNED if it did'nt.

This week's program featured music from The Kinks, The Flaming Lips, Elk, Public Image Limited, Laughing Clowns, Demics, The Mourning After and Blue Squares (two bands on the vol.8 garage punk hideout comp), Link Wray and more!  I did a feature on the Batman Theme song and played a few covers of it too!
