Single-minded, a Big Beat singles anthology is worth picking up, got the Tall Boys, Delmonas, Stingrays etc. The Blood on the cats albums are worth picking up as well although they are also mixed with rockabilly/psychobilly, both scenes in the UK were very mixed at the time.

Also The Wigs did a couple of great singles, there was also a great compilation album on Media Burn the title of which escapes me, will dig it out later.

Yeah I haven't yet checked out Thee Wildebeests (apart from on the Mark Lammar Show back in the day). I'm slow too much to fynde!

Hey this is where I shoulda been when I started a discussion on Psychobilly into Garage, (started in Trading Post, oops)... oh well , yeah I remember the UK scene pretty well (although still only a teen at the tyme).. one comp that did it for me was "Garage Goodies Vol 1" put out by the above mentioned Mike Spencer .

I met her several years ago , real cool lady , looked great , too.). This is a real Rock'n'Roll movie  with real Rock 'n'Roll teens , so quit bitching about technical jive.

Wow, 20 minutes? Sheesh, I'm so old school that if a song is going all the way to 5 minutes it better be changing my life! I can't think of ANY song that went that long that held my interest. But on the lighter side, this one was around 15 minutes, and it's the longest song that I have actually sat all the way through (feel free to add plenty of cheese!)

Try "Lost Episodes" or "Mystery Disc" for more Zappa garage sounds like "Speed Freak Boogie" and "Charva".  Music is the best!

Yeah, I love Zappa's early '60s stuff. I'm not a big 45 collector so I don't have any of those you list above, but I do have the "Cucamonga" CD on Del-Fi which is a collection of some of this Zappa stuff. It has his Bob Guy "Letter to Jeepers" and some other goofy stuff like the Rotations, Baby Ray & the Ferns, Mr. Clean, etc. I especially like the Rotations' surf stuff. Pretty cool! Good luck in your quest.

Hi GRGPNKers ... Frank Zappa was also certainly involved with some of the releases on the U.S. Donna label  which was a subsiduary of Del-Fi. I also have an Rhino LP called 'Rare Meat'  which features Frank's DONNA releases as highlighted below in the list. & also some Aertuan releases that feature Frank's 'surf' guitar (but again can't remember of the top of my head which ones as everthing is still in a real mess here...)

anyway I was wondering - Does anyone know of any other early 45's from this list or other labels prior to the Mothers of Invention that he played on? ...or of any others that he may have either produced or written for on this label? (or possibly Del-Fi)

I have few 45's on the DONNA label, although of the top of my head - I can't can't remember which ones aside from some by Ron Holden, and also the crazy 'Hully Gully Trumpets' by Don Markham & the Marksmen ( and possibly other 45's kickin around somewhere too...) My interest in Frank Zappa's earlier stuff is in the way that he played guitar as I also play guitar myself.

Smith & The Fall to arrive on 45's...  

 

OF COURSE , I SEE YOUR POINT. Sadly The REAL KIDS DID'NT GET TO PLAY NORTONPALOOZA , I heard John Felice has Corporal Tunnel Syndrome.
 How many original , surviving members would have played , or will , if they ever gig again , I don't know. I saw them once with John and Howie , and once or twice with John and later member , Billy Cole , is that his name? They always KILLED , EVEN ONCE WITH A PICKUP DRUMMER.

There are lots of bands still playing out with members in their 50s and up. The Fuzztones, D.O.A., The Cynics, The Fleshtones, The Chesterfield Kings... I'd bet all those guys are in their 50s. Nikki Corvette is still rockin', too. Take a look at the lineup for the recent Norton Records fest... The Real Kids (they ain't kids anymore!), the Great Gaylord, Andre Williams, The Sonics, ? and the Mysterians, Randy Fuller (Bobby's brother), Flamin Groovies, etc.
