one of the best podcast of GPN...el tocadisco salvaje...full of south america garage bands!!!!...my fav are Los explosivos from mexico...wyld teenage fever!!!!  & horror de luxe from brasil (raw swamp duo)

I am sure there are a great number of good bands coming out of that hemisphere. On a related note, I gotta say that Davilla 666 is a really cool group from Puerto Rico (I believe) with all lyrics sung in Spanish. This band seems to be doing a decent job of crossing international borders and breaking into the American market, and their kick-ass album on In The Red Records probably really helps.

It appears that we Americans don't hear much from South of the border. It is not surprising to hear European bands playing "American music", but I don't seem to notice too many bands from the South. It is like an odd "iron curtain" that keeps those bands out of our cultural loop. It probably boils down to some form of strange/tacet racism in light of Americans' Euro-centricism. 

I am not going to get all sociological about it here, but I just have a feeling that Americans may be missing out on a lot of great bands from that part of the world. Does anybody have any good and easily accessible sources for finding out about this kind of music? Maybe La Bicicleta can give us some links to podcasts, etc...

Best Current/Recent Garage bands?....quite difficult to answer...but without doubts, for me the best current garage punk area is SOUTH AMERICA!!!! (mexico, brasil, colombia, argentina, chile....)...

Agreed. Oldies=Goodies, but hey it's good to keep it new too right? 

Been really digging the Old Haunts lately. Stumbled upon them a few years back playing in an old mortuary house in Oregon, and have since rediscovered them I guess. They're from WAshington state. Worth checking out

Ryoko from Thug Murder formed a kinda Joan Jett-influenced kinda hardcore band called Last Target.

Bass player Chisato was in punk/metal band The Vickers and now has an all girl punk band called Timeless Timber who I haven't seen yet.

Another all girl band in this punk scene worth mentioning is Softball and Akiakane, the lead singer's band after they broke up.

I quite often listen to the two Flying Saucer "garage rock intervention" episodes, Pure freakin' genius! And there's always the constant replays of Get Drunk and Play Records, I love that show, all the burping during songs, awesome.

I have started a few at the very beginning - much fun in doing this.  Savage Kick, Desparate Hour (thumbs up Alex), and Mal Thursday show.  Mal's first 'songs that the Lyres Taught Us' resides as a CD in my car so I re-listen this to this specific show the most.  Mal just knows how to captivate.  I have been wanting but still have not completed a full replay of Radio-oblivian. Michael entertains well.

so glad that these older shows get played over and over by people. 

Okay... It would be nice if had something to contribute to the discussion instead of just spamming it.

For future reference, The Trading Post Group is where this sort of post should go. Okay?

I know that feeling... just for quicks, I saw someone with a Cute Lepers bag at a garage punk un-related show and felt like I had to jump them out of joy.

It's weird though... Local monthly clubs like Voodoo Hop or any other "event" put up half way regularly by DJ's draws quite the crowd here. Places are always packed, but I can't seem to see any faces I know - except for the 3 same weirdos I always meet around.

The Cramps covered 'Problem Child', though it never went beyond the demo stage. It's available on various bootlegs.

I've been thinking about the Wikipedia page lately, and I really think it needs to be redone. Right now it's pretty much all about the GaragePunk Podcast Network. Obviously that needs to be a PART of the page, but not the title. The site isn't all about the podcast, and hasn't been for a couple of years now. When you go to GaragePunk.com it takes you to the Hideout, so I think someone needs to fix this entry so that it's retitled "GaragePunk Hideout" and is redone so as to include information about the social networking site here, and then include info in that about the GPPN, as well as GRGPNK Records (Hideout comps), etc.

In fact, when you read it, it ain't even correct! It starts off by saying "The GaragePunk Podcast Network is a leading social network, media center and blog portal..." and that's just wrong! The GaragePunk *Hideout* is the social network, NOT the podcast! See what I mean?

But again, I'm not allowed to do this since I own the site (and they know me by what IP addresses I use), so someone else will have to do the editing for me/us. Any volunteers?

Cool. I was on a roll for a while (Not like THAT.), but , I start to forget what some of the REAL finds were. I've got one Sun 78 , "Feelin' Good" by Little Junior Parker. I've seen the El Dorados a couple of times , just doing guest appearances on "Chic - A - gO gO" and  once , at The Blues Fest , about 23 years ago. If they're still performing , there's no original members , because they're all deceased. They had one member from the second line up , and the SON of an original member. Hey , they sounded great.
