3. Teenage Head....You're The One I'm Crazy For....from the Teenage Head with Marky Ramone CD. Frankie Venom's last recordings with the band and recorded by longtime Ramones pal Daniel Rey.

5. Ramones....Basement.....from 1975 demos produced by Tommy Ramone RIP....this part of our show is dedicated to Tommy, the brains behind the machine, who passed away this week.

7. Ramones....I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend...from a Norton 7", 1975 demos produced by Marty Thau. If Marty had produced the first LP, things mighta been a little different and the world just might have accepted the Ramones instead of making fun of them. The band was considered a joke by the mainstream for many years....when in reality the joke is on the mainstream.



8. Ramones...Judy Is A Punk....flip side of the above.



9. Ramones...Havana Affair...from the first LP, 1976. I remember seeing ads for this LP in Rolling Stone magazine and it was completely different from anything else we'd ever seen up until then! Stripped down monochrome photo that looked like it came from another world. Mystery and intrigue as we had no idea what this band sounded like...radio play? in yer dreams! The only way to hear this one was to go out and buy it at Records on Wheels here in London Ontario as that was the place to buy records that were non top 40. My buddy Derek went out and bought it as we were bugging him about looking like Joey Ramone at the time....tall, skinny, glasses, introverted and a head full of black hair. Turned out we all thought the Ramones were great but had to wait until 1980 to see them live!



10. Ramones...Now I Wanna Be A Good Boy....from their 2nd LP, Leave Home.



11. Ramones...We're A Happy Family...from their 3rd LP, Rocket To Russia. This is my fave Ramones tune. A socio political statement on the family unit as a functional entity in a disfunctional world. Yep, it sums up the family unit alright!



12. Lionel Lodge...Smile...from his brand new CD, The Agitator. Local artist whom you may remember from such 80's London Ontario combos as The Catch and Nosmo King Jr.



13. Legend Killers...Loaded Gun...from the We're Workin' On It CD. This goes out to drummer Jeff Depew, for whom there was a benefit at Call The Office last weekend. Jeff is having some health issues and can't work and needs all the help he can get to help cover his medical expenses. Check the Call The Office page for details on how to assist.



14. Vintage Experience...You Don't Look Good To Me....demo from Ryan In The Reds latest combo. Ryan hosts Rock City Madness on the garagepunk hideout site on the web.

We've got another project coming on, Rock'n'Roll Rent Party. It's going to be a live show, first sunday of the month from 3 till 7 PM at the APK right here in sleepy London Ontario. Local rockers, The Mongrels will be the resident band and there'll be another band joining them for each show. There's no cover, we'll be passing around the hat and possibly selling raffle tickets on a pie or cake. And i'll be the MC to announce the bands and other stuff. Hope to see you at the opening for this on the first sunday of August....more details coming.

Gotcha. I was seeing the old ones in moderator view but I checked the forum page incognito and see how it looks publicly. My personal opinion would be to move the Lounge (non-music) above Regional since Regional is so much longer and it gives it a greater chance of being noticed. If someone sees Regional they'll know to keep scrolling until they find their region of interest. 

If you guys haven't noticed, I went ahead and did away with the segration of eras for the music discussion area, basically moving all of the topics from those forums into this one, which was formerly "Shakin' Street," and is now just simply called "General Music Discussion"... What about that name? Can you think of something better to call this forum? Should we go back to just calling it Shakin' Street, or go with something new? I'm open to suggestions.

I'm one of these people who are here one day and gone the next for weeks at a time. This is probably mostly due to school and being busy. I've never been on Facebook, Instagram, or whatever is hot these days. I do frequent Terminal Boredom a lot. I even used to be on the old old Garage Punk Message board many years ago. 

One thing I notice here on the forums is there is not a lot of participation. Sometimes I click on topics and nothing has changed for days or weeks. I think maybe narrowing the topics down a bit to be more inclusive may help. Such as music and non-music. Instead of bouncing back between punk, garage, new music..etc. Politics, books, and whatever else could be non-music. Sometimes I don't feel like looking in every thread to see if something interesting is posted, but if I could just look in a couple, I may see something I was not expecting to see and get involved in a conversation. 

I'm not trying to put down the way you have it going on here. I think the site is great and like coming to check it out. This is just an idea, which I thought may stimulate more conversation. 

 

Also, some of those sections that are at the top, the "last post" or "last reply" is from more than a year ago, sometimes 3+ years ago. I'm sure this gives someone the impression that nothing is going on here anymore. So maybe it should just be "Music" and "Not Music" and then maybe the super organized ones would be the Regional?

Lately..Hmmmm "Five Easy Pieces"soundtrack , Johnny Hallyday '66-'68 Psych and Cracker Soul comp , magnifuckin' fique ! The Lords (German Beat Legends) Best of and rarities set on Bear Family , Psychedelic Radio Spots (B- Film and Rock 'n'Roll radio spots from The 60's.) , Five Keys on Aladdin , GONN "LOADED" , That one South African band they say was Punk but sounds more like Gang of Four (Not that that's bad , but...) , some good Rockabilly comps , inc. "Rock 'n'Roll Orgy" and a great 4 disc set on Proper (WHO RULE !!!)of Country , R'n'B , Doo Wop , early R'n'R. Comedy - Johnathan Winters w/ a Frank Frazetta cover, someone McCallister (Black Drag performer , produced by Rudy Ray Moore.).

Alot of movies that deal with Punks get it all wrong , but that's what' s so fun about them.

'' Breaking Glass"  stars Hazel O'Connor (Former Girlfriend of Hugh Cornwall of The Stranglers and recording artist in her own right.) as a Punk singer whose band takes off , but , when fame happens too quickly ,she loses sight of her ideals , and becomes very Ziggy Stardust - like. Cries of "Sellout !" abound. I first saw it on a double bill with "Rude Boy"in '80 or early '81 ....You've probably seen the latter, but , if not , it deals directly The Clash trying to figure out how not to become absorbed by rising fame and , well , cries of "Sellout !".

"Jubilee" - I have a copy , but it'll only play on my computer , and I watch movies on TV , as God intended.

"Return of The Living Dead" - One of the funnier movies , post - Repo Man , to deal with Punk and get it all wrong , though about half of the soundtrack is great.

''Valley Girl" - REALLY misses the boat with Punk , esp. for L.A., BUT IT'S A FUN TEEN FILM.

                     The Plimsouls and Josie Cotton mime to a couple of their own songs.

"Neighbors" - Deals with Punk , in passing. John Belushi's innocent , cherubic Daughter comes home all punked out , two tone hair , black leather , a stash of edible panties and "Holiday in Cambodia" blasting on her boom box.

"Cotton Candy" - Not a Punk film , but recommended.  Ron Howard's considerably tame answer to "Rock'n'Roll High School". The music is real nerdy , performed by Charles Martin Smith , who worked opposite Howard in "American Grafitti" (As "Toad"), and stars as an idealistic teen (Who was already about 25 at the time , and looked older , still ...shades of "Happy Days"who goes head to head with the "Bad Guy Band" , who own his High School. The Bad Guy band is played by future members of Dallas Punk/Psych legends , Quad Pi.). Clint Howard ( Rock'n'Roll High School.) co - stars , making it Punk by default. He publically knocked his Brother's choice of music , saying "The Ramones were my kind of people !).

TV - You may know all of these examples , but.....

"Quincy" , "CHIPs" , "CPO SHARKEY" (Don Rickles goes to a Punk club and meets The Dickies. Kid Congo and other LA PUNKSTERS ARe EXTRAS.) , "Sugar Time" (Very SHORT LIVED SERIES. BARBI BENTON AND HER GIRLFRIENDS TRY TO MAKE THE BIG TIME AS A SINGING GROUP. In one episode , they "Go Punk", WEARING GARBAGE BAGS FOR DRESSES , singing "GARBAGE! GARBAGE ! WE WANT TRASH!".....

WKRP in Cincinatti - You've got to remember the episode where the station hires a band from England , The Scum of The Earth , who turn out to be more Power Pop than Punk (Or more like REO Speedwagon...it's been a while.), to do a concert , then find out they like to beat up on members of the audience.

They Young Ones - OK , VYVIAN was not a Punk , despite his being labelled as such. He was more like a latter - day EngliSh Rocker. Not the previous generations' bikes and black leather and 50's R'N'R variety (Hilariously misrepresented in "Quadrophenia" as VERY long haired and bearded, because those were the only extras they could find who could ride !), but people who liked both Metal and Punk , BEFORE IT WAS FASHIONABLE , but leaned more toward Metal. I knew guys like this , from England , and they called themselves Rockers.

Square Pegs - It's not Punk ! It's New Wave ! It's a totally different head !

                       Johnny Slash , our fearless leader , was the first TV counter cultural icon of his time , even if he appeared to be a poseur (Like Maynard G. Krebs , THEE first counter cultral icon on TV , period .).   Slash , at least , was an EX - pUNK rOCKER.

In the past month I've re-watched Suburbia and Class of 1984. These have kind of put me in the mood to watch similar stuff. Any suggestions?

             The Plastic Dipshit Band (Thrown together band that subbed for a no -show group at The Cincinatti Pop Festival , with Cub Koda , Suzi and Michael Quatro , and I think Nancy and Patti Quatro and others. 1971? Not the festival that was on TV.).

            Noel Redding Band (With Eric Bell - ex Thin Lizzy , Them.) Saw it the other day , though.  Obviously , I could look it up on You Tube or Something.

Nothing comes to my mind as current. Fe Fi Fo Fums seems to be the last sort of modern band of that genre I can think of. I do miss it!
